Today we’d like to introduce you to Leticia Esquivel.
Hi Leticia; thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am honored for this space and for reaching out. First of all, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Leticia Esquivel, and I am originally from Luvianos, Estado de México. I have been living in Austin since 2004, and I love the community, the cultures, and how most people are kind and supportive. After working primarily in survival jobs in customer service for over 19 years and being in contact with yoga communities for an extended period now, I’ve decided to change my way of thinking since I am a single mom and look out for our future and what a blessing for me to choose something from my roots, my ancestors, my blood my country. At the same time, helping my people from Mexico and support them by seeing their art, everything handmade, embroidery, designs, colors, etc. Also, I know that nowadays it’s becoming more popular, so why not do what I know the best is “customer service” supporting, sharing a fantastic quality of textures, and looking out for my future and my son Dario Tomas, providing all of the beautiful garments and accessories at a great price. You can find us @ IG as _Malitzin.
Thank you for reading and for your time.
With love,
Leticia
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far, it has been great, people like to support locals, and I am blessed for the surroundings that care about me and, just like that, do hesitate to buy from Malitzin. I will not lie that I would like to be at the pop-ups as a vendor someday, but I got to admit that my English is not 100% yet, and I think that is pulling me back, which I am studying, and I will be soon very fluent 🙂
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
A great question; First, I’d like to summarize the name Malitzin also known as La Malinche. La Malinche’s reputation has shifted over the centuries as various peoples evaluate her role against their societies’ changing social and political perspectives. Especially after the Mexican War of Independence, which led to Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1821, dramas, novels, and paintings portrayed her as an evil or scheming temptress.[4] In Mexico today, La Malinche remains a powerful icon – understood in various and often conflicting aspects as the embodiment of treachery, the quintessential victim, or the symbolic mother of the new Mexican people. That said, I chose the name Malitzin because Mexico was independent. As a strong, smart, and brave woman, I can see myself as her, so that is why. All the garments and accessories that I carry are not wholesale from another vendor, thanks to my mom Emma Esquivel that takes her time to go to Mexico City and select an exclusive and unique variety of beautiful stuff, and when I say stuff, I am telling “a lot” of varieties from clothing to huaraches and accessories. Also, with Malitzin, you have me, the best customer service, and very happy to do so.
What does success mean to you?
Success is achieving all my goals by taking baby steps, having discipline, and putting love into what I do; then, success will come by itself—achieving my dreams/goals with abundance and gratitude.
