Today we’d like to introduce you to Wyatt Geer.
Hi Wyatt, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
We created Silly Squabbles! Out of boredom, honestly. We were looking for something to do that was fun and low-risk for two dudes in their mid-twenties. We’re also trying to raise money for an app we’re working on. We wrote the bulk of the game in about 12 days, spent a few days getting our online presence set up, buying equipment, etc. We just started printing and cutting games, boxing them, and handing them out. So far, the time has been chiefly spent getting the word out by messaging comedians on Instagram or going to downtown Austin and recording on-the-street content. We currently make all the games by hand using some basic supplies, and once we get enough orders in, we’ll switch to a manufacturer.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been anything but a smooth road. There have been issues with almost every aspect of this process, for example:
- Trying to decide which cards belong in the game and why.
- Issues with the website, social media, copyright paperwork, etc.
- Finding people to promote and play the game.
- Personal arguments between the two of us.
What started as something fun to do quickly became a business venture. We’ve had to lighten up and remember to have fun with it. I also stepped away for about a month, so there’s been some catching up to do on my part.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
Both of us are relatively new to entrepreneurship. We both have our creative processes and outlets like music or comedy, and they have transferred over well to what we’re doing now, but there’s still a strong learning curve. We’ve had a couple of “businesses” in the past, like aircraft detailing and online stores, but nothing serious. We’re currently working on a mobile app, so part of this has been raising money. We’ve also got plans to create a men’s group soon.
Any big plans?
Tyler will take over the game entirely in the coming months and secure funds for the mobile app and the men’s group. I’ll join the Army in a few months, but we plan to continue working together once I arrive at my unit. Once I leave the Army, we’ll resume working together full-time. Tyler plans to go back into stand-up comedy as well.
Pricing:
- They can get a free PDF of the game on our website.
- They can order their game copy on our website for $22. All games are handmade and all customers can get 10% off with my code “WYATT10”
