Inspiring Conversations with Roshni Wijayasinha of Prosh Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roshni Wijayasinha.

Hi Roshni, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My first marketing leadership position was at Kobo, where I got to lead and grow the global product marketing team. After having experienced the company’s rapid growth, I wanted to lead an entire marketing team, so I moved to Juice Mobile as the Head of Marketing. During that time, we expanded into the US and launched the world’s first mobile programmatic platform. My next position was at Thinking Capital, where I had the opportunity to build the marketing function from scratch – the company needed to be rebranded, and we needed to make a digital marketing lead generation engine and create a team and marketing infrastructure. I then had the opportunity to help Benecaid modernize its marketing efforts with digital marketing and help develop Honeybee, a revolutionary platform to help brokers sell health insurance online. Juice Mobile, Thinking Capital, and Benecaid had successful exits, which made me think about building and growing my own business. So, I launched Prosh Marketing as an independent consultancy to help startups and small businesses develop their marketing function from the ground up. Over the years, it has grown to a Fractional CMO model with supporting consultants and clients worldwide. My key challenges throughout my career were managing growth with limited budgets, managing work-life balance as my work required a lot of travel, and the pressure of startups that need to grow aggressively – but I thrive off the pressure!

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
When I was first starting, the underrepresentation of women in the technology industry made it difficult to find role models and mentors who shared similar experiences. This lack of representation is slowly changing, but it can challenge women to advance their careers and achieve their professional goals in the technology sector. However, at Prosh Marketing, we believe in providing equal opportunities for all. We offer opportunities to newcomers, students, and interns from diverse backgrounds, recognizing the value of diversity and diverse perspectives in marketing. Additionally, as an angel investor with The Firehood, I focus on supporting and empowering women in the technology industry. Our goal here is to increase women’s participation, leadership, and prosperity in this field, addressing the gender gap and promoting equal opportunities for all.

As you know, we’re big fans of Prosh Marketing. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
At Prosh Marketing, we provide fractional CMO and fractional marketing director services that serve as part-time marketing leadership for start-ups. Our team assists with messaging and positioning, market channel planning, designing and implementing team structures, processes and systems, and marketing tech stacks. By setting up the marketing infrastructure, we help companies to grow and scale, utilizing their resources efficiently. Our clientele spans across Canada, the US, and Europe, and we are continuously expanding.

What makes you happy?
Helping other people and seeing other people succeed makes me happy. The impact of such actions can be far-reaching, as one person’s success can inspire and motivate others to do the same. It’s gratifying to witness the ripple effect of positive change.
