Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Terrazas.
Hi Gabriela, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My photography journey started a few years after graduating high school in 2012; I was fascinated by taking pictures of anything and everything. I entered college for Graphic Design, so I had some experience in editing, which is the second part of photography. I would have some friends or ask people on social media if they wanted to be my models for free and that I was practicing my photography and had many people supporting me. Of course, in the beginning, I could have been better. Still, I knew I would improve if I continued doing it with time. I would practice with a PowerShot digital camera at the time; later, with my parent’s help, I could upgrade to a Nikon DSLR camera.
At this point, I knew that this was something that I wanted to do in the long run. I enjoyed doing it, and I decided to call myself “Gabby’s photography, videography, and graphic design.” with the bit of experience I had already, I was ready to make some extra money with what I knew and put myself out there. Time passed, and yes, indeed, I was getting clients, and I could upgrade cameras and buy more photography equipment; one thing was for sure, and that was that I was not going to give up on this dream. A friend called me once, and I remembered he asked me for my business name, and before I could answer him, he said is it “Gabby’s Media?” I liked that name, which was way shorter than I had, so that’s how “Gabby’s Media” got the name.
By 2016, I was working for Hispanic clubs taking pictures; I feel like I got to be known at the clubs because I would be the “photographer,” and people would then contact me for Photoshoots, parties, events, etc. My parents played a huge part in Gabby’s Media because my dad built me my first studio so I could do Photoshoots inside. More time passed, and in 2020, my dad built my second studio; this was bigger, and I had more space to get more creative. I was working for clubs until 2020. I took many pictures of Spanish artists, some big in the industry, and met them, and that was just what I had dreamed of once. My business was continuing to grow, and I was so Happy! More and more clients would contact me for my services, and people already knew who Gabby’s Media was. It’s 2023 now, and I feel more than blessed to be where I am; I continue to grow little and have many dreams for Gabby’s Media, and I will not give up on them. Many doors closed on the way, and everything happened for a reason. If you have a dream, do not give up! Time will pass anyway; make it worth seeing. If I can, you can too.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with everything, it has been a challenging road; many obstacles and challenges I had on my way up. I think that the main one was many times I thought of giving up, quitting what I had started, and getting a “real job” because many of us want our businesses to grow fast, which was not happening with Gabby’s Media at some point in the journey. I would ask, “Is this going to be worth it?” There are so many questions that I would ask myself, and now I can answer “YES!” nothing comes easy, and in the end, it is worth every challenge.
