Hidden Gems: Meet Faith Chan of Hi Vibes Goods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Chan.

Faith Chan

Hi Faith, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have been a Pastry Chef for 17 years. I got into culinary arts while studying at USC and decided to make a break for it and switch my life direction. I’ve always been obsessed with eating and food, but I thought that was all there was. Then, once I got into college, I decided that I should pursue that instead. I had no experience working in the kitchen, so I decided to enroll in a trade school to get a feel for the industry. I went to the Le Corson Bleu Culinary Arts school in Pasadena and fell in love. My first job out of school was back home in Singapore. I got a pastry job as a Chef de Partie at an Italian Patisserie called Ricciotti, which was part of the Garibaldi restaurant group. I then returned to Los Angeles to work as a Pastry Chef at Blair’s restaurant and learn about the intricacies of becoming a chocolatier at Valerie’s. I missed connecting with the freedom of creativity there. After a couple of years, I moved to Austin. I found a true community and a sense of belonging in this city for the first time. After working at a short-lived wine bar and neighborhood store concept on South Congress, I was contacted by Apple. I just found out they had such a large corporate dining facility. I was enticed by the idea of having more vacation time to figure out the rest of my life. I became their corporate Pastry Chef at the Austin campus for 13 years. But over the past couple of years, I felt a pull again. It was time to venture out to develop my new ideas of vegan and gluten-free pastries and see if I could make them as delicious and more mainstream. That’s how Hi Vibes Goods came to be. I want to be a place where we create a community to enjoy food and lift people’s moods but without the consequences of hurting their bodies with overly processed or toxic ingredients. I want to help balance the burden we have put on animals in our industry. It’s crazy the amount of processed ingredients we have to add to make things look delicious and have a longer shelf life. I feel there’s a need to show people that desserts can be as amazing without all the junk ingredients.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, it’s been a fun ride. I know I’m in the right industry!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Premium Plant-Based and Gluten-Free Goodies. We are most proud of developing our unique plant-based and gluten-free recipes and our organic fruit blend in our cakes and cookies.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m a massive goofball at heart. Laughter, along with good flavors, is my medicine.
