Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Maywald.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I started putting up our Christmas display when I was 9 years old. Year after year, it grew into what it is today (300,000 lights). We decided 9 years ago to collect donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In our first year, we only collected $250, but I was determined to grant a wish the following year (at the time, a wish was $5000). I met that goal in the second year and granted my first wish to a child who wanted to go to Disney World. In the past 8 years, we have been able to collect over $250,000 and grant 35 wishes! That is why we do it. In 2019, we were featured on ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight” and fortunately won! It was so cool to see our display on national television. We welcome all visitors to park in our parking lot on-site and walk through our display. There is no entrance fee; all we ask is a donation to Make-A-Wish at our box when you enter (cash or card). We are open 11/23/23- 12/30/23.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Putting up the display when I was in college at Texas A&M was challenging. I have since graduated and live back in Austin, so it is easier. Building the display items in the summer can be challenging when it is extremely hot. It takes about three months to put it all together!

We put up a Christmas display for the community each year, benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Our traditional display is open to all, so come out and enjoy the magic of Christmas.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Best- The weather, Least- The traffic!
