Conversations with Ryan Leahy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Leahy. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Ryan Leahy

ABOUT RYAN: Ryan’s success in business was built from necessity and good old-fashioned hard work – not privilege. A native of Dallas, Texas, his modest upbringing drove his ambitions to secure his financial future and to be a positive force to help others do the same after graduating from St. Edward’s University in Austin. Ryan started his career in the financial consulting industry. In 1999, after breaking records year after year at his firm, he made a career switch and set his sights on the mortgage industry, becoming a loan originator in 2002. Ryan’s mission has been and always will be: “To materially change the lives of those we touch.” For years, Ryan studied the complex dynamic between relationship building, sales, and human psychology to help his clients achieve the best results. He’s worked with world-renowned mentors like Todd Duncan, author of High Trust Selling, and Michael Maher, author of 7 Levels of Communication. Because of his vast experience at the intersection of finance and real estate, Ryan is in demand as a speaker and coach. He’s been a Keynote Speaker for the Austin Bar Association, Financial Planners Association of Austin, and the Austin Board of Realtors. In addition to originating loans, he’s hosted countless continuing education courses. Highlights include his “Dollarize Your Database” course for Realtors and appearances on multiple talk radio shows. He’s also achieved the President’s award at nearly every firm he’s worked with. As for his most outstanding achievement, Ryan is proud to be a partner to his loving wife, Tammye, and an adoring father to his son, Merit. He is thankful and honored to be trusted by his peers and clients as one of Austin’s premier mortgage producers.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The road in the mortgage business could be smoother. I liken it to sailing. There have certainly been times when I’ve faced headwinds, and other times, the tailwinds have been excellent. The 2008 mortgage crisis and the most recent compression cycle we find ourselves in today have been remarkably challenging for me and my peers. What gets me through the difficult times is my faith in God, consistent work ethic, and surrounding myself with professionals who complement my areas of weakness. This formula has served me well.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I would be where I am today with the help of others. Here are a few mentors/coaches who have helped and inspired me. Professionally speaking, I’ve followed Darren Hardy, author of the “Compound Effect” and mentor to many Fortune 500 professionals. He’s an expert on business planning and expansion. Todd Duncan is another coach, more specific to the mortgage business, who’s been particularly influential to my mortgage career. More recently, I’ve been doing a lot of work with Wally Elibiary. Wally is the author of the “24/7 Mindset” and is personally working with me and my team to help us have a breakaway year in 2024. Personally and professionally, I rely on several members of my team. Bruce Wallace is my right man and manages all aspects of my business I have no interest in overseeing. He’s also been a remarkable confidant in my personal life. Barry Wheeler and James Bonacci keep me in my lane and allow me to do my best: originate loans. There are others, but these are the guys who I most appreciate.
