Meet Cody & Katelynn McGrath of Uplifted Movement & Performance Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody & Katelynn McGrath. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Cody & Katelynn McGrath

Katelynn and Cody met in San Marcos, TX, where they received their Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees from Texas State University. Not long after graduating from school, they both knew that they aspired to open a practice of their own in a place they loved. Cody grew up in Georgetown, and it did not take Katelynn long, after living in Georgetown for a while, for them to realize Georgetown was just the place to do it!

After working for other physical therapy clinics for several years and learning the ins and outs of what they wanted in their clinic, Cody and Katelynn decided to jump. They opened Uplifted Movement & Performance Therapy in September 2023. When they first started thinking of potential names for their new practice, they bounced around several possibilities but returned to the name Uplifted. The name Uplifted was born partly to honor a dear friend who taught Cody and Katelynn how to “live life on purpose” and partly to represent their purpose of serving God by helping their patients continue living their lives on purpose!

Cody and Katelynn are forever grateful for all the mentors they have had along the way and the fantastic support they have received from their families and friends. Without all these people, Uplifted could not have become a reality. After seeing the downside of insurance-based PT clinics, where clinicians were forced to see more and more patients, essentially decreasing the quality of care possible, they knew they wanted to build something different. They wanted to build a clinic where they could spend time truly getting to know their patients so they could understand what their specific goals were. Being an out-of-network physical therapy clinic allows Cody and Katelynn to spend more time with each patient and build each person who walks in their door a truly customized plan to get them out of pain and better than they ever thought possible. Uplifted Movement & Performance Therapy offers the highest level of orthopedic manual therapy, with Cody being a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists, as well as pelvic floor and prenatal/postpartum physical therapy care with Katelynn being a performance pelvic health specialist with extensive experience in manual therapy and a certification in pelvic floor therapy through the American Physical Therapy Association. They also specialize in working with endurance athletes and athletes of all kinds. Cody and Katelynn aim to serve God by helping others escape pain and achieve their movement and performance goals!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As any small business owner knows, opening a business is no joke. All the ins and outs of obtaining all the requirements to be able to say you are open for business can be quite the headache, but we knew that this is what we were called to do, so we did it. We got access to our clinic space in July 2023 and got to work as soon as possible. With much patience and physical and emotional help from our families, our dream was put into motion, and Uplifted was born.

Thanks for sharing that. Could you tell us more about your business?
Locally owned and operated performance-based physical therapy clinic specializing in manual orthopedic physical therapy, pelvic floor physical therapy, and treatment of athletes and active individuals

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The pandemic was such a trying time for all of us. The isolation that came with public safety had such a significant impact on everyone. One of the biggest lessons we learned through all this is how vital a sense of “community” is. We believe that, as humans, we were not made to endure this world alone. We pride ourselves in trying to get out into the community to connect with the people in our community. One of our biggest goals at Uplifted is ensuring a culture encompassing connection, compassion, and longevity.
