Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Sawyer.
Hi, Alyssa; having you on the platform is an honor. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I was born and raised in Key West, FL, and I credit some of the cool parts of my personality and my outlook on life from being from such a small, unique island town. I have a degree in exercise science, and my story began once I started to try and figure out what to do with it. I was living in Fort Lauderdale, and I saw an ad for a wellness studio hiring a personal trainer. I went for the interview, and the woman who I was replacing was the first person who interviewed me. When she liked me, she passed me to who would become my boss, Dan Hellman. Dan saw so much of my potential and put much of his time and energy into ensuring I had all the tools I needed to be great. He was a teacher for the CHEK Institute and started sending me to all of the CHEK classes, including classes on gut healing, energy medicine, and osteopathic bodywork. I received a lifetime of education in 3 years, the most amazing gift I could ever ask for. I became a holistic health coach, bodyworker, and “healer of any health mystery” specialist. During my time here, I was also training for the Boston Marathon. It was one of my first big dreams to qualify, and I did! I worked with Dan for 3 years and got to figure out who I was and my purpose. The serendipitous start to my journey represents the magic that happens when I follow my heart. I have always found myself being supported, loved, and guided each step of the way. I moved to Boulder, Colorado, for a few brief years to see what it was like to “leave the nest,” then it was time to leave that town after two years and come to Austin in October 2019. While the world was shutting down, I focused on starting my business in a new town, helping people heal and find the root cause of their pain. I stayed focused and started taking classes on lymphatic drainage therapy. Then, the lady who interviewed me at Dan’s studio (Leila) moved to Austin! We decided to open a gym and called ourselves Fitness Healers! Leila and I helped each other learn and grow a lot personally and professionally. After a year of working together, we decided we were better friends than business partners. I transitioned my business to TigerATX, where I have had my office for over a year. I see so much specialness that I have always gotten to work for myself and do what I love as an adult. For the past 10+ years, I have learned how to help people heal from anything on the mental, emotional & physical level. I have immense amounts of gratitude that I get to do what I love to support my own life.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, I have always had help, which made things feel doable. The most challenging part was when COVID was happening, and I had to figure out how to do things my way and create a life for myself in a new town.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you can tell us more about your business next.
I call myself a body alignment specialist. I help people heal mentally, physically, and emotionally. I am a master check practitioner, lymphatic drainage therapist, and SOMA fascial therapist; I have over 200 different orthopedic assessments that I can perform on someone’s body to get to the root of their pain. I do things my way and piece together over 30 different certifications weaved in with my intuition to provide people with the best direction for their healing. People can come for body bodywork, lymphatic drainage, holistic personal training, mental health/life coaching, or a combo of it all. I specialize in getting to the root of people’s pain and giving them specific solutions.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I am most interested in any modality (podcast, book, blog) that speaks about wellness, the body, spirituality, and unique views on the world. My favorite podcast is when I am getting to record my own (Coach Sawyer Says podcast!) or be a guest on others. My favorite and pivotal books I have read thus far are Letting Go By David Hawkins, The Courage to be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi, Awareness By Anthony DeMello, and The Dark Side of Light Chasers By Debbie Ford.
