Today we’d like to introduce you to Julian Ward.
Hi Julian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I was a multi-sport athlete who played football, basketball, and track. Due to injuries, the career in football and track, which was shaping up to be great, took a pause. I lost multiple offers, got depressed, and thought it was over. By the blessing of God, I was still able to play 3 years of football in college even though my knee injury and shoulder injury were still affecting me. I graduated from Texas State University with A Bachelor of Science in Recreational Administration. I began doing group fitness sessions and training athletes in skill development alongside my regular job. Two years later, I got into coaching at the high school level. I coached football, basketball, and track and was also in multiple positions throughout my 6 years of coaching: head coach, assistant coach, and offensive coordinator for football, basketball, and track. Now, I continue the journey I started and train athletes full-time at all levels (Youth to professional) to perform at a higher level than ever.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My road to get to where I am now felt like mountains I had to climb over instead of moving through a rocky road. I dealt with the struggles of the sport but also the struggles of life and loss of scholarships, death of friends and family, almost losing my life, practically not graduating college, money issues, etc. On another note, the struggles I went through are what made me who I am. I believe God’s blessing is not what is given but what you must go through to receive. I thank God daily, not for what I have but for the knowledge and love I gained over time through those hardships.
As you know, we’re big fans of F.O.C.U.S. PERFORMANCE. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
F.O.C.U.S. PERFORMANCE is a business that means “FIGURE OUT CONSISTENCY UNITIL SUCCESSFUL.” I created this business to show what hard work can get you and where it can take you. I offer personal fitness training, sports performance, and skill development training, fitness events, and sports skills camps. What sets me apart from others is that I offer multiple types and training levels. I taught myself over the years how to put the same movements from the performance part into the skills part of training. Going to multiple clinics and training with professionals, I learned how to develop an athlete in all sports instead of just one specific sport.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is the outcome of your failures. A person is not giving up and continuing the process even though it may be challenging, and you may fail at points.
