Charity Palmer

Hi Charity, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am Charity Palmer, a portrait, headshot, and personal branding photographer in Fredericksburg, TX. Possessing a BFA in photography, my professional career started in the realm of successful commercial product photography, with notable achievements such as having my work featured in magazines and on billboards in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Encountering challenges in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship led to a temporary loss of my passion for photography. Over the past five years, I have undergone a transformative process, reigniting my enthusiasm for photography under the influence of the esteemed photographer Sue Bryce. My focus is crafting exquisite portraits, headshots, and personal branding imagery. Everyone has a unique story, and I want to tell that story through photography. In 2020, I moved to Fredericksburg from San Antonio and established my photography business amidst the pandemic. Now, I am in the process of building a new studio that is slated to open in the spring of 2024.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I was working professionally as a product photographer at the top of my game in Fort Worth when I got caught up in an abusive relationship. This caused me to lose my passion for photography, amongst other things. Moving to a small town and starting a business during the pandemic has been difficult. I had to overcome the challenge of sharing a studio space with another business owner and ensuring that all of the proper Covid protocols were adhered to for the safety of my clients. I also have had to overcome the challenge of creatively marketing my business since it is different from a larger city.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in modern headshots and personal branding. I shine at making people feel comfortable and creating incredibly authentic photographs they can use for their brand. Additionally, I create custom photography sessions where I work with clients to tell their stories through photography or to make their visions come to life. I focus on the connection between their spirituality and feminity in this space.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for finding a mentor is to look for someone you connect with and who excites you about what you do. For networking, find groups around you and attend their events with an open mind and zero expectations. Whenever I go to a networking event, I connect to at least one person. I have always had the most success with listening and being curious whenever I meet someone new.
