Conversations with Wisdom Edioma

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wisdom Edioma.

Wisdom Edioma

Hi Wisdom, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Nigeria, the home of Afrobeat music, a giant of Africa, where you see the most vibrant people in the world. I grew up in Newark, New Jersey, and Brooklyn, New York. About two years ago, I moved to Austin, Texas, and started Westborn Collectives because I want to bring people joy and build and sustain a networking/entertainment brand that bridges the cultural gap in the Austin metropolitan area—using music, art & fashion to infuse people into the culture.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not. I left New York, where most of my family lived, to come to a place where I knew nobody and had to build all over again.

Some struggles were:
-Making new friends
-Finding a new church community because I believe in God.
-Finding a creative African and Caribbean community because I grew up with people from West Africa, Jamaica, -Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Brazil.
-The fear of starting new & pitching my ideas to people
-Find a stable job and create a business on the side.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I curate events and art shows to bring different people together. We introduce people to new artists, local and international. We aim to merge this gap between the United States and Africa by educating people through music, art, seminars, and future trips to Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, and other African countries. Last year, we were able to do 5 shows for our startup year, and this year, we aim to do many events; our first is called Snapshot, which will be on April 6th at Soco Studios. I am so happy and proud that I found an incredible team to build this dream with, and it has kept me accountable along the way.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
Honestly, the Bible puts God first in everything I do. Podcast: I built this with Guy RAZ, Capcut & Canva for designing and editing.
