Rising Stars: Meet Sahara Gentry of Kentucky

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sahara Gentry.

Sahara Gentry

Hi Sahara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Sahara Gentry and I am a trans man who is a health coach and personal trainer. I’ve been a coach for the queer community for over six years now, and I love helping people, fight, gender, dysphoria, create healthier lifestyles and build their confidence. I grew up in the Bible belt in southern Kentucky, and I never saw many queer people, or had many queer friends. My goal was to create a community online where you can feel safe while pushing your fitness and health journeys to the next level with people who are just like you. I’ve had the pleasure of working with hundreds of people the last years. From ages 16 to 65 & I have gotten to hear so many beautiful stories. We’re all so different but also so similar & that’s ones of my favorite things as a coach – getting to know your story.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I like many other trans men had a hard time not feeding into comparing my body to cis men or even other trans men who had been working on their physique longer than I had. I love helping beginners learn how to navigate their journey so they can do it with confidence & sureness that they will progress toward their goals. Social media makes it very easy to compare journeys so I struggled myself with that in the beginning as well for certain.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
If you see my page you will see I started out in a very small physique, a little under 110 pounds. Creating a physique after top surgery that creates a proud reflection in the mirror for me is definitely one of my favorite accomplishments. When I get a message or picture from someone I’ve worked with telling me how I helped them feel better in their body, it’s a feeling I don’t have words for. I am so honored & proud to play even a small role in the journeys of people loving themself more & becoming stronger than they thought possible. My goal is to be known for my compassion & commitment to my clients in all realms – not just pushing their physical but also helping them conquer their mental battles along the way.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
There are some people I have to give credit for behind me & the first being my partner, Kayla. I share on my page my past struggles with partying & alcohol in my early 20s. Kayla is who helped me step away from that life & I replaced partying with the gym. I never would be here today if that hadn’t happened. I also have to give huge thanks to my mom, dad & grandmother. They all have always accepted, encouraged & nurtured the person I want to be. My dad owned a gym when I was growing up & competed in powerlifting competitions. I was always around lifting & played so many sports. But not until after highschool did I truly fall in love with weight lifting. Dad & I love our father/son workouts & we try to get them in when we can. I’m so thankful for my support system & all they’ve done to help me grow into the confident man I am today.
