Exploring Life & Business with Zach Hamilton of Punch The Clock

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Zach Hamilton.

Zach Hamilton

Zach, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The idea for Punch The Clock came from my friends and me being dumb, just sending each other stupid messages about working out. Then came Instagram stories of photoshopped clocks onto famous punches throughout history. This turned into a mindset that I used to tell myself to work hard for a short amount of time, then have the ability to clock out and let the real important things in life get their time to shine. Those things are your “you” time being protected, time with your family and friends to remain a priority, and a reminder not to let work be an idol in your life. So, I use two ends of the spectrum to breed ideas for my shirts, and I hope these silly little shirts remind others to do what the shirt says. If we all punch the clock and do our best, it will make that “clocked out” time better, and I truly believe it will make the world a better place as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a short and bumpy road for sure. We have really only been in business for about a month or so, and I feel as though it has gone well for that short of time. Yet, as a guy with an Exercise Sports Science degree, I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. This makes this process very stressful and filled with learning experiences along the way. I’m enjoying it, though, and have support all around me from people I truly look up to and trust their advice, but I am stubborn and love using my way before anything else. Humility will be my best friend and worst enemy at the same time, but I’m very excited to see where this journey takes me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are simply a shirt company that wants to encourage you to work hard but hang out and just be a human being more than anything. This process is totally new to me. I am a Personal Trainer as my full-time day job, and this is just something I’m pursuing because I have always felt creative and wanted to use an outlet to encourage/entertain people. Thus birthed this silly little T-shirt company.

I think a lot of these “hustle” mindset brands might take themselves too seriously in that aspect. Yes, I agree we should 100% do our best at everything we do. Yet we need to never forget that life should be fun, filled with the important things that truly make us feel alive. To me, that is best exemplified when I’m choosing to slow down and forget about the business side of everything; I’m constantly reminded that my friends and family don’t give two rips whether or not I hit a bonus number or signed up 10 new clients in a month. They care about how I’m doing and that I’m laughing and enjoying life.

We are most proud that our brand encourages you to care about the business side, but we think you should care way more about making memories and stories with the people you love.

We’re a young company that makes fun shirts at the end of the day, but we want to make sure our message gets spread. Punch The Clock and do your best so that when you clock out, you can solely focus on the things that truly matter in life.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Do things the way you want to, but be humble enough to seek advice from people who have gone before you.

Here are four of our shirts from the two original collections, “Clocked Out” and “Punch The Clock”. Clocked out being the more laid back side and punching the clock for going in and working hard.

Here’s a shirt I made because I wanted to incorporate more pride for Texas in the brand and wanted to make a sure my grandma would be proud of. This has quickly turned into my best seller!

To continue with adding in Texas pride and remembering where I came from I wanted to make sure that emphasized that hard working Texas Mentality that spans multiple different cultures. I think it is one of the coolest things about Texas and wanted to make a collection that encapsulates that!

The rough draft of the very first shirt made that got this whole thing going, this has since become the Punch The Clock Back Logo shirt on our website.
