Exploring Life & Business with Hannah Nokes of Bunny Run Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Nokes.

Hannah Nokes

Hi Hannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in Texas, I developed a love for wide-open spaces, gracious hosting, kind manners, and Tex-Mex. I consider myself a Texan through and through, but there’s no doubt that my travel and experiences have impacted my life and my dream of creating beauty in the world.

In my senior year of high school, my father’s job took us to the Middle East. It was a big shock, but I loved it. Immersed in the Middle Eastern culture, I learned all I could about its customs, foods, music, architecture, and natural wonders. The sounds, smells, and tastes are forever etched in my memories and impact my work. From the Middle East, we traveled to Asia and Europe.

I returned to the US for college and followed what seemed to me a responsible career path: a business degree in college, a first job at a Fortune 500 company, and then an MBA. My husband and I grew our family to include three daughters. I launched a business consultancy and co-wrote my best-selling book Magnify Your Impact: Powering Profit with Purpose to help business leaders uncover hidden potential and beauty in their organizations. My consulting work was a pursuit of beauty: all people and organizations have potential, which, when exposed and channeled, creates a massive positive impact.

Over time, I realized that the part of my soul that seeks out and creates the beauty of all forms was only partially satisfied working in the corporate realm. I have always appreciated unique and beautiful interior design and architecture: homes, restaurants, hotels, artfully presented meals, hauntingly beautiful music, and the ever-shifting light on the water. Beauty comes in many forms: physical, relational, spiritual, God-created, and inspired. I wanted to experience and create in all of those spaces. In particular, I have always had a talent for interior design and a deep belief that beautiful and well-functioning environments are critical to people’s success. I launched Bunny Run Design to help our clients make their homes a respite from the outside world.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Because I have a corporate business background and I’ve run my business consulting firm, I benefit in some ways: I came into interior design with experience with budgeting, financial modeling, managing teams, etc. Entrepreneurship is always challenging, however, because it takes a long time to have consistency in your client load; some months, you have too much work and need more support, and then there are seasons where you have more time. I’ve dealt with those challenges as much as any other entrepreneur. I’ve also struggled with “imposter syndrome” as I pivoted from traditional corporate work to more creative work. It took me a long time to be confident and not worry about anyone else’s thoughts.

Thanks for sharing that. Please tell us more about your business.
