Today we’d like to introduce you to Leticia Rodriguez.
Leticia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was raised next to a Houston oil refinery by two hardworking parents. They showed me unconditional love, and I always knew I could accomplish my goals. So some of my life journey was fated; some was luck. I’ve always followed my heart, which has always led to creating art.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far? (It has not been a smooth journey, but always an interesting one.)
I believe that all struggles are meant to strengthen your resolve or to refine your goals. We all face challenges. I lost both parents at an early age; my father died at 49 and my mother lost her mind for some years due to grieving. I had to rely upon myself. It was hard, but I’m a worker too. I never give up on my goals.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a musician, singer, bandleader, songwriter, producer, wife, mother, and grandmother. I am known for producing works that are very expressive, address social issues, and bring people together.
Right now, my age sets me apart. 99% of my peers are a decade younger or so than me. It’s very fun. It’s also humbling.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The arts industry is in a state of turmoil, as is the world in which we live. It makes art even more important to cultivate as humankind gets consumed by business interests, AI, and distractions of our making. I continue to believe in following one’s heart, but also being practical by using a multi-stream income approach. Educate yourself to be independent of your music if need be, so that you can survive.
