Hi, AYN. I’m excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
To tell you the truth, we never thought that this seemingly crazy idea would one day turn into an entire business. It always seemed like a dream, but it eventually became a reality with enough hard work and faith in God.
So, how did we get started? While we officially began selling our desserts in March of 2022, the passion for dessert-making stemmed from before. We were constantly testing different recipes and coming up with various concoctions, which, we must admit, could have been better. This occasional failure kept us from sharing our creations with the world because we knew they had to be perfect to sell something. The desire for perfection and a lack of confidence persisted for some time.
It wasn’t until the end of 2021, upon experiencing some significant setbacks, when we finally decided it was time to start. Did that mean moving out of our comfort zone and taking a risk? Most certainly! Fast forward to 2024; we are two years into our business, AYN Delights. Yes, it wasn’t easy, but we are truly grateful to God for leading us this way and granting us the courage to pursue this endeavor. What started as an absurd idea eventually became one of our best decisions.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We all face obstacles in life, and starting a new business is no exception. We had to overcome several struggles to get to where we are today. Namely, regarding the type of desserts we were looking to sell, one of the biggest hurdles was finding packaging that would not affect the presentation. We also needed to ensure that our products remained intact during transportation. After all, they were to be a delight at first sight! Even though there were a few times where inappropriate packaging resulted in ruined desserts, it helped us realize where and how we needed to improve. It may have been a struggle, but it was a learning experience that allowed us to get to where we are today.

AYN Delights is a cottage-based business that specializes in making miniature dessert cups. Managed by three sisters (Arwa, Yumna, and Nusaiba), we seek to bring delightful desserts that look the part. This is an aspect that sets us apart from other businesses. We strive to put the utmost care into creating our desserts, treating them like a designer would treat their pieces, ensuring that each one leaves a statement. Over time, AYN has also expanded to include a more custom dessert experience for our clients, from matching the desserts to the event’s theme to creating unique dessert spreads. Starting as a concept and eventually seeing AYN become a reality never amazes us. We are incredibly proud of how far we’ve come and the wonderful community we’ve come across who believed in us and allowed us to showcase our talents!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any essential lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Since we started AYN two years into the pandemic, it didn’t have a significant impact on our business, excluding the few occasions when clients had to cancel events. In light of this, we have grown a newfound respect for businesses that began before the pandemic and were able to maneuver their way through it.
