Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlon Arechiga
Hi Marlon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My artistic journey began in 2014 with the launch of my first project, ACID Brand. At 14 years old, I was skateboarding daily, passionate about the culture and filming/editing my friends’ skate parts. After facing rejection from shop flow teams, I took matters into my own hands and created ACID Brand to sponsor my friends and provide them with free clothes.
Inspired by my aunt in Mexico, I started printing clothes myself, transforming my parents’ kitchen table into a makeshift factory. This sparked an obsession with screen printing, and soon I learned how to build a website, and was ready to take on the world.
In 2019, I launched my second project, Cranberry Cranium. This venture allowed me to experiment without limits and fear of judgment. Cranberry Cranium quickly became known for its bold and boundary-pushing designs, cementing my reputation as an innovative and fearless artist.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been anything but smooth. Along the way, I’ve invested countless hours and deep emotions into ventures that, from a business perspective, didn’t pan out as expected. Life’s inherent ups and downs have also posed significant challenges, including the painful loss of friends and family.
One of the hardest realizations was understanding that I am a one-person team. The weight of responsibility often feels immense as I juggle the roles of investor, designer, accountant, marketer, and distributor. Each hat I wear brings challenges, demanding a level of resilience and adaptability I never anticipated.
Balancing creativity with business acumen is a delicate dance. There have been moments of self-doubt, and times when the financial strain seemed overwhelming. Yet, these struggles have shaped me, pushing me to grow as an artist and as an entrepreneur. Through every setback, I’ve found new reserves of strength and determination, driving me to persevere and innovate. And with that, I’m able to continue pushing forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Cranberry Cranium, we are driven by a unified vision to redefine the boundaries of artistry and innovation. Our mission is built on a foundation of expressive freedom, experimentalism, and conscientious environmental and social practices. We aim to tap into the boundless potential of creativity through collaborative partnerships, unrestrained by conventional limits.
My main focus lies in screen printing and graphic design. I’m also passionate about advocating for oppressed communities and championing the cause of freedom.
What sets this project apart is the relentless commitment to pushing boundaries and our fearless embrace of experimentation. I’m most proud of our ability to stay true to our values while continuously evolving, making a meaningful impact, and inspiring others to do the same.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Despite life’s many bumps and obstacles, there was always a way to navigate through them. When the world knocked me down, I rose stronger. This past year was a testament to that resilience, marked by profound challenges and transformative growth. Experiencing ego deaths and rebirths has reshaped me in ways I never imagined.
After over a year of keeping my new work under wraps, I’ve been fortunate to embark on a journey of profound growth and self-discovery. During this time, I’ve explored diverse projects across various mediums, reconnecting with fellow creatives and expanding my artistic horizons. Now, I’m thrilled to announce the upcoming release of my latest collection, set to debut in early 2025.
