Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelley Laws
Hi Kelley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Photography has been a part of my life since I was a little girl! I remember getting my first film camera in elementary school and then falling in love with photography through yearbook and photographing sports during high school. Soon after, I began doing lifestyle sessions and shot my first wedding in high school after shadowing another wedding photographer for a bit. I love being able to capture moments that you can look back and relive all of the feelings and emotions through!
My husband and I started our first wedding photography business while we were engaged and shot weddings for a few years before moving overseas. Once we settled back in America I opened my business back up and am so grateful for every single incredible client!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
After photographing weddings for close to a decade, one thing I try and remember is to continually grow with the changing industry and serve each couple intentionally and personally! This can be challenging in my busy seasons but I also get so much joy through connecting with my clients and serving them during the most special season of their lives!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in natural light, fine art wedding photography and shoot both digital and film photography. My heart is to serve my clients well while capturing timeless and beautiful images that are personal to their stories. It is my hope that they’d look back at their wedding photos in 5, 20, or 60 years and feel all of the same emotions rush in again- from the smallest details to the biggest moments.
After working with my clients, we stay connected as friends and I love that! I’ve even gotten to photograph some of the wedding couple’s as they have had kids and grown their families through the years! I love the relationships that I’ve been able to form through this job, it’s been really special.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Outside of work life, I stay super active with three busy kids! Some days I go from soccer mom in the morning to full time wedding photographer until midnight! I love it and couldn’t do it without the support of my husband who is an incredible father! I also LOVE running triathlons/races, coffee, and camping – it’s super fun to connect with clients over that!
