Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Floyd
Brittany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been interested in photography since my parents handed me a disposable camera as a child. They were impressed with what I was able to capture! I always viewed it as a hobby until I found myself post psychology degree, not wanting to counsel and mothering my first baby. I began using photography as a way to get to know people and capture all of the emotions I’d been seeking out in the psychology field. Weddings encapsulate all of those important life connections more than anything I could have done!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been easy. It’s hard to find your footing and style in such a saturated market with so many options and so much varying advice! It’s also difficult to balance work and family life. Loving what you do helps a lot!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a wedding photographer, my eye for candid emotion and my ability to communicate easily with others really benefits my artistry. People have a tendency to feel uncomfortable in front of camera and being keenly aware of that is where I tend to start from. I want everyone to be as comfortable as possible! It should be effortless so that the photos reflect fun and connection and not a whole lot else!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Inclusion is a big part of my work and Houston is such a hub for culture. This HAS to be my favorite part of living here. I get to learn about different traditions and cultures, eat different foods, and capture all the vibrance of it all!
My least favorite thing about our city? I guess just the sheer size! I’d love to be able to travel corner to corner without it taking multiple hours!
