Conversations with Chris Schreck

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Schreck

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved here in 2018 to pursue music. I wanted to start a band and found Nick Rash at the School of Rock in Round Rock. We collaborated and started working on a combination of styles with influences from Thrice, John Mayer, The 1975, Prince, etc. The band has gone through a few lineup changes over the years and is currently set with Bryce Weston on Drums and Matthew Rodriguez on bass. The band has released 8 singles and is working towards an extended play of some kind. They work closely with bands such as Nolo, Our Last Daze, Tough on Fridays and more.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
UPS and Downs for sure. We struggled during Covid like any band. We had to deal with a change in our drummer, and we had our guitarist Nick move away. We’ve experienced times of feeling stuck in the writing process or experiencing demo-idis.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work as a teacher and music director of School of Rock! I love teaching and feel that spreading knowledge is great way to apply what I do to something that can give back. I’m most proud of a piece that I created for a 60 piece orchestra in College. I’m all over the place. I don’t even listen to music as much as most people think. I love stand up comedy. I like to fish, I love to travel.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I was lucky enough to stumble upon this gig with the Cellists from Americas got talent. That’s a fun story. It was luck for sure, but I also had the right prep!
