Hi Kayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was a student at Texas State University when I went home for the summer and worked at a tanning salon in my hometown, The Woodlands, Texas. When I came back to school, I realized this was the perfect side hustle and started spray tanning during my sophomore year. A few months later, I moved into a beauty salon, and my business took off as I connected with Texas State students, especially in the sororities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Starting a business while being a full-time college student came with a lot of challenges. In the beginning, I was balancing classes, homework, and growing my client base at the same time. There were also moments where I doubted myself, especially starting out in such a competitive industry.
Another challenge was building trust and getting clients consistently when I was first starting. A lot of my growth came from networking, social media, and word of mouth, which takes time and consistency. I also had to learn the business side of things on my own, like marketing, scheduling, customer service, and managing finances.
Even with the challenges, every obstacle helped me grow both personally and professionally, and it made me even more passionate about building my business

My business focuses on providing customized spray tans that help clients feel confident, comfortable, and glowing for any occasion. I specialize in natural-looking, personalized tans that are tailored to each client’s skin tone and goals, whether it’s for vacations, weddings, sorority events, photoshoots, or just everyday confidence.
What sets my business apart is the experience I try to create for every client. I want people to feel welcomed, comfortable, and leave feeling better than when they walked in. I truly care about making sure every tan looks natural and fits the client personally, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
A lot of my growth has come through word of mouth and building relationships with clients, especially within the Texas State community and sororities in the Austin and San Marcos areas. I’m most proud of the brand I’ve built from the ground up while still being a full-time college student. Watching something that started as a side hustle grow into a real business has been incredibly rewarding.
I want readers to know that my brand is about more than just spray tanning — it’s about helping people feel confident in their own skin and creating an experience that makes clients want to come back again and again.
