Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Perez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my journey in the salon industry in 2006 at a salon called Ciana in Los Altos, California. It was there that I had the privilege of being mentored by Alison Siddall, the owner of the salon. Alison will always hold a special place in my heart—she inspired her entire team to believe in their potential and pursue success. Her unwavering belief in me played a huge role in shaping my career, and I’m forever grateful for her guidance.
In 2009, I decided to formalize my training by enrolling in beauty school in Modesto, California. I attended alongside my sister, Anna Mendivil, who is now our talented Lash Tech. The following year, in 2010, I moved to Texas in search of a fresh start and the opportunity to grow my career as a hairstylist. While I initially tried working in salons, I quickly realized that the independent route suited me better. I began working as an independent stylist and continued on that path until the fall of 2023.
In 2023, I found a charming little house near my home and transformed it into a salon, allowing me to work closer to my family. Today, that salon is proudly located in Kyle, Texas.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I was raised by a single mother and am one of five children. Growing up in a low-income, Hispanic Latina household, owning my own salon was something I never imagined possible. In this industry, it can be incredibly difficult to advance without access to resources or formal training. I didn’t have the means to attend classes or workshops to sharpen my skills—so I taught myself.
I’m proud to say that I am self-taught, and everything I’ve learned has come from hands-on experience and a deep passion for my craft. Along the way, I’ve also discovered the joy of sharing my knowledge with other stylists, helping them grow just as I have.
My biggest supporters have always been my husband and my children. Their belief in me and constant encouragement have kept me going, even when the path was uncertain. Because of them—and my own determination—I’m proud to say that I am the owner of Color Me Royal Salon.
As you know, we’re big fans of Color me royal salon. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Color Me Royal Salon was founded with a vision of family, beauty, and empowerment. I am the owner and Master Colorist; I began my journey in the beauty industry in 2009 after relocating to Texas. By 2013, I made the bold decision to become an independent stylist, and after years of dedication, I opened the doors to Color Me Royal Salon in a cozy house-turned-salon near my home.
With over 15 years of hands-on experience, I lead a talented team that offers full-service beauty care—including hair services for women and men, waxing, nails, and lashes. The salon proudly features Keratherapy Keratin products and Schwarzkopf professional color, reflecting the commitment to quality that defines every service offered.
Color Me Royal Salon is more than just a beauty destination—it’s a space built on love, trust, and family. Inspired by my sister Anna, who is also the salon’s talented lash technician, and my daughter Naomi, a gifted nail artist, I created the salon to reflect my Latina roots and my journey as a mother turned successful entrepreneur. My husband and children have been my greatest support system, encouraging me every step of the way.
Joining the Color Me Royal family is also Krystal, the salon’s skilled barber. Krystal brings passion and precision to every haircut and grooming service, helping extend the salon’s reach to both men and women in the community.
In the fall of 2024, I became an educator for Keratherapy and look forward to hosting classes on color, keratin treatments, and business development for aspiring professionals.
The salon’s name, Color Me Royal, was created through a creative session with my sister Anna—combining our love for color and the symbolism of royalty. The crown in the logo represents pride, self-worth, and beauty—reminding every guest that they are treated like royalty.
At Color Me Royal, the mission is simple: to help people feel beautiful inside and out. I’m a firm believer that : “Stylists are therapists—we become family instantly. I believe in passing on everything I’ve learned, because I know how far passion and perseverance can take you.”
And as the motto goes: “Invest in your hair—it’s the crown you never take off.”
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think that Customer service is key to our success, in our day today. Our loyal guests require our loyalty as well. This is why I believe in treating our guests as family. And wanting to create a space that feels welcoming. This is what makes our guests coming back. I learned along the way to just be myself. Unique and down to earth.
