Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Adams.
Hi Elizabeth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My business started during the one most difficult seasons of my life. Six years ago I was struggling with my mental health and sought treatment through a hospital stay. During recovery, a therapist encouraged me to find a hobby that brought me joy and gave me something positive to focus on. I chose working with polymer clay, never expecting it to become more than a creative outlet.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like any small business, there have been incredible highs and some really challenging moments along the way. Since I run Made. Bleu on my own, I’m responsible from everything from designing and creating to marketing and shipping, which at times can feel overwhelming. One of the things i’m most grateful for is the flexibility that comes with being my own boss. When I need to step back, recharge, and refocus, I can.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a polymer clay jewelry artist known for my bright hand mixed colors. For the past two years I have been focusing on small charms and for the past 6 months I have been slowly turning all of my polymer work into ceramics. This is a big step for my business because it’s something I have been teaching myself. I am most proud of turning a painful chapter of my life into something meaningful. What sets my work apart is the heart behind it. Every piece is handmade with care by someone who understands the value hope, healing, and better days.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I do therapy, listen to music, get outside with my kids, watch a lot of tv, I need a constant stream to keep the energy flowing and ideas moving.
