Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah & Bethany Hernandez.
We are the Paranormal Putas. Two hermanas, Leah & Bethany, born and raised in East Austin, Texas. While growing up our family would share terrifying stories with us, which ignited a curiosity and fascination with the paranormal.
We started the podcast for fun in July 2020 while bored during lockdown. We focus on sharing stories from our Eastside communities and release bi-weekly personal tales of all things paranormal, but it doesn’t stop there!
We are huge fans of travel channel’s Ghost Adventures and we are bringing our audiences along for a funny yet spooky Ghost Adventures rewatch!
The Haunts and laughs we bring are something even the dead can’t ignore.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When it comes to the podcast, we feel that we have done pretty well, which is surprising. We started this project because we love talking about the paranormal so that part comes more naturally. We also have a great chemistry, being sisters, which makes it easy to bounce off each other. We think the real obstacles come from our position in life. We are women, Mexican, plus size, and nerds! We are part of marginalized communities and live in a system that oppresses people like us. It can be hard to be taken seriously or heard at all simply for being who we are. That is exactly why we stress who we are. We are proud to be from the Eastside and proud to be Mexican women. We want to share our stories and experiences and help raise the voices of those in our community.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are podcasters who talk about the paranormal experiences we’ve had and we interview people who want to share their stories. We also review and discuss episodes of Ghost Adventures.
We specialize in all things paranormal.
We are known for discussing paranormal experiences and curiosities. We are also known for our love of Zak Bagans and the Ghost Adventures Crew.
We are proud of everything we do. We create a space for people to discuss their paranormal experiences which can be difficult. Some people won’t believe you or think you are crazy when you talk about ghosts and aliens. So some people don’t get that outlet and it’s cool to provide one. Within our first year of podcasting, we got invited to present at Paranormal Fest in San Antonio, Texas which was a huge honor and we are proud of what we did out there and it gave us the drive to do even better. We have received a great response because we are women in a community that is largely male-dominated. We think people are ready to see more BIPOC women in this community and we are excited to be a part of that change.
What doesn’t set us apart? We have something that no one else does. We are family. We are sisters that are also best friends so we understand each other on so many levels. Our show is spooky but also funny. A lot of paranormal shows out there focus a lot on the scare factor, which we do but we bring humor and love to the subject as well.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Hasn’t everyone? We are experiencing a collective trauma and still are. If anything right now, we realized our mortality. Life is short as they say, so we figured why keep waiting? We always joked about being radio hosts or having a show since we were kids. One day during lockdown we looked at each other and asked, “What are we waiting for?” Although we believe in some kind of life after death, we realize we don’t want to waste this blip of time in which we are here on this planet, in this physical world. There is nothing but yourself that holds you back so we just decided to get out of our own way. We may have sat on this project without that slap in the face from the COVID-19 crisis.
