Conversations with Nazia Hoda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nazia Hoda.

Hi Nazia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Art has always been my passion, but for many years, it remained quietly in the background as I focused on my corporate career. Growing up, I was drawn to creativity, and my family and friends often encouraged me to pursue art more seriously. Still, life took me down a different path—one filled with professional responsibilities and little time to explore my artistic side.

It wasn’t until I moved to the United States and took a career break that I finally had the space to reconnect with that part of myself. During this time, I began to explore the hidden talent I had carried since childhood. What started as a personal journey quickly turned into something much bigger. I was invited to showcase my work at an art exhibition, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. People genuinely connected with my art, and their appreciation gave me the confidence to keep going.

That experience was a turning point. It showed me that passion, when nurtured, can evolve into something powerful and fulfilling. Today, I’m proud to say that what was once a hobby has become a professional pursuit—one that brings me immense joy and allows me to express myself in ways I never imagined

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many people who shift from a structured corporate career to a creative pursuit, I faced a lot of uncertainty. One of the biggest challenges was self-doubt—wondering whether my art would be good enough, whether people would appreciate it, and whether I could really turn a passion into something more meaningful.

There were also practical struggles. I had to learn how to navigate the art world, build connections, and understand how to present my work professionally. Balancing personal responsibilities while investing time and energy into something so new was not easy. But every small win—every kind word, every piece of feedback, every exhibition—helped me push forward.

Looking back, those struggles were essential. They taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of believing in myself. The journey wasn’t smooth, but it was absolutely worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a self-taught artist, my creative journey is fueled by a deep passion for vibrant and expressive art that reflects both the beauty of Islamic heritage and the world around us.

While I specialize in textured painting, I don’t confine myself to a single style. My work often blends modern calligraphy, nature, and floral themes, with Arabic calligraphy playing a central role. Using acrylics and mixed media, I create pieces that evoke emotion, spark imagination, and inspire connection. Through my art, I aim to share the serenity and spiritual depth of Islamic art, exploring themes of unity, devotion, and inner peace.

The response to my first exhibition was incredibly encouraging. It gave me the confidence to pursue art not just as a hobby, but as a profession. Today, I continue to explore and evolve, driven by the joy of creation and the meaningful connections my work fosters

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The art industry is undergoing a fascinating transformation, and I believe the next 5–10 years will bring even more innovation and inclusivity. One of the biggest shifts is the integration of technology—AI-assisted creation, digital marketplaces, and virtual exhibitions are becoming mainstream. This opens up exciting possibilities for self-taught and independent artists like myself to reach global audiences without traditional gatekeepers.

Textured and mixed media painting is also seeing a renaissance. Artists are embracing sustainability by using recycled materials and found objects, while combining tactile textures with digital elements to create immersive, multi-sensory experiences. This hybrid approach is not only visually compelling but also emotionally resonant, allowing for deeper storytelling.

Overall, I see the industry becoming more democratized, diverse, and digitally savvy. Artists who are adaptable and authentic—those who can blend tradition with innovation—will thrive. It’s an exciting time to be part of this evolving landscape.
