Conversations with Odilia Hernandez

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Odilia Hernandez.

Odilia Hernandez

Hi Odilia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been in the field for 24 years. Started in High School. I worked for Supercuts, became a trainer with them, and Left because I wanted more. Started with Farouk Systems and traveled the world at 21. Had babies moved around a lot. Worked for many schools as a teacher. I am still taking classes to stay on topic and be updated with new trends. In the last five years, Paul Mitchell won 4x fundraisers, and that pushed me to work for myself. I wanted more of everything. More freedom, more control of the lesson plan and the times of the class. Now, I’m my own business. I am a new academy, building and empowering others with the skills to better themselves and the quality of their work. I’ve already helped a student pass her state board test, which was so rewarding last week, and I’ve only been up for a few weeks. Love it. I’m still taking extra classes to better myself, as well. Always a student. Always learning. Always growing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No smooth road. You have people say they have your back, then crickets… The client is slow, too. Marketing and pushing the benefits is new for me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in fun advanced classes. Lash Lifts (perms for lashes), Brow Lambs (fluffy brows), Classic Lashes certifications. Teeth gem certification. I’m an educational base academy where an individual or group comes in and learns a new skill. We go over theory and hands-on models and have a clear understanding of how and why we do procedures. They leave feeling confident and with a certification of completion. All for a reasonable price.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Winning a dance-off with girls my age. It was at a baby shower. I was 10, maybe. I won. Don’t remember the prize. I do remember the happiness I felt.
