Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Romero.
Hi Desiree, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My artistic journey was never a straight path—it was built through years of observation, service, movement, and self-discovery. Before fully embracing my identity as an artist, I spent over a decade helping build and operate a restaurant, where I learned discipline, adaptability, and the art of connecting with people from every walk of life. Hospitality taught me that every interaction carries a story, and those stories eventually found their way onto my canvases.
While working in hospitality, I also stepped into the world of film and television as a background performer. Being on movie sets exposed me to visual storytelling on a larger scale. I became fascinated by composition, atmosphere, costume, and the subtle ways emotion could be communicated without words. Watching worlds being built from imagination reinforced a desire to create worlds of my own.
Over time, I began developing a visual language rooted in faces, flowers, symbols, and abstract forms. What started as experimentation evolved into a recognizable style—one that blends human emotion with spiritual symbolism. The recurring eyes within my work represent awareness and inner vision, while flowers symbolize growth, transformation, and the interconnected nature of life. My paintings often exist somewhere between reality and dream, exploring the parallel dimensions that live within ourselves and our relationships with others.
A strong influence throughout my creative evolution has been Zen philosophy. The practice of being present, embracing imperfection, and finding beauty in simplicity has shaped not only how I create but also why I create. Rather than forcing meaning, I allow each piece to emerge organically, trusting intuition and the natural flow of the process. The canvas becomes a meditation—a space where spontaneity and intention meet.
Today, my work reflects the culmination of these experiences: the human connection learned through hospitality, the visual storytelling inspired by film, and the mindful awareness cultivated through Zen principles. Through EYENINJEYE, I create art that invites viewers to look inward, recognize themselves in others, and find beauty in the unseen threads that connect us all. My goal is to create pieces that transcend background, culture, and circumstance—art that serves as a reminder that creativity, like humanity itself, is deeply interconnected.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There was a time I lived in LA and NY with nothing, no plan, no job and not a stable living space. So no it wasn’t so easy but through time you learn to be grateful every step of the way. Perspective is everything. I’ve always had to run with faith and believe life was going to get better and better. Ten years later I still stand on “good fortune favors the kind”.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create content, paint and make a way in every creative avenue as possible. I’m most proud of just listening to my intuition. It’s a knowing that every thing that happens in life prepares you for something bigger and better. What sets me apart part? I’d like to say “not giving a f**k”. Excuse my language but it’s a rebel stirring gut feeling that helps you become unstoppable. Creatively and filling a space of your own.
Any big plans?
The plan has always been to open more doors for creatives. It’s what my heart is set on. Travel and strive through my work.
