Daily Inspiration: Meet Jordan Nesenoff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Nesenoff.

Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a young teen and through my early college years, I was a big drug user and club promoter. I saw that lifestyle as cool and what would make me happy. As I continued down that path, I soon learned that I had not only become addicted to multiple substances, but I had also completely lost who I wanted to be. I had the most admiration for people who did hard things all my life, people with ultimate discipline, and who achieved true success in life. I did not have the strength or tools to walk that path until life imposed its will on me. I ended up overdosing and landing myself in a psych ward. That then led to a year of mandatory outpatient rehabilitation. Looking back, it was the best thing that could have ever happened to me, and I am eternally grateful for it. It is sometimes better to smash your face into rock bottom than hover above it, living a miserable existence forever.

After this experience, I got clean, only to relapse to drugs a year later. That was 4 years ago, and I have been sober ever since. I lost 50 pounds and got into the best shape of my life, went back to college, graduated with a degree in sociology, got my National Academy of sports medicine certification to be a personal trainer, completed multiple endurance events, ran a marathon, found the partner of my dreams and continue to push the limits of my mind, body, and spirit every day. I am a practitioner. I have always been the lab rat. I was trying things that did not serve me. I have now replaced those with things that do. I now push myself in all aspects of life to be the person I admire. Through that and overcoming my addiction, my life’s mission is to share the tools I have and continue to cultivate daily to help people live optimally healthy lives at peace with themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, your environment will always play a big part in recovery from addiction and reaching any goal in life. I did have to isolate myself in my process for a while because I did not have people in my life that wanted me to succeed. The hard truth is you then have to be alone. Second is what you say to yourself and the story you tell. The mind always has the advantage over you, and my mind told me a jacked-up story for a long time. I should quit, fall in line, and fit in the box so many people thought I should be. Reality is this, find an environment where the people serve you, or you can be alone. Then live your life in a manner that you would be proud of daily to reprogram your mind. You will start telling yourself a whole different story.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a NASM-certified personal trainer and addictive behavior coach online. People can find me @trainopus on Instagram. I help people turn their weaknesses into strengths. Many people think they have to change who they are to get clean or get in shape. For some, that may be true. But the more common reality is people need to flip a few behaviors. Use the same mechanism that drives them to use weed every night or eat a donut 4x a week and instead read every night and go to the gym 4x per week. Replace behaviors that do not serve you with ones that do.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My discipline. Whether I feel like it or not, I give my 100% that day. The reality is that we don’t feel our best every day but proving to yourself that you show up no matter what is what becoming undeniable is. That is how your gain ultimate respect from yourself, family, peers, partner, and clients. On the other side of that, you will find success. At the same time, Opus does not have the financial success so much value yet. In my heart, I know we are. I have helped many people before starting Opus a few months ago and am working with a client who is making amazing progress.
