Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan De Los Rios
Hi Juan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had a passion for the engineering of things. That curiosity led to the deconstructing, dismantling, tinkering and learning of all kinds of systems. In taking things apart and putting them back together, you become drawn to people who know a lot about that. A late friend and mentor took me under his wing in learning low voltage work, and inspired me to branch off and create something of my own.
I have always looked for a path toward liberation in the sense of controlling where my time and energy is spent. I’ve also always had a strong sense of empowerment in regards to being able to learn and do most of what I need done. These two aspects of my life led me to entrepreneurship.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Learning I was going to be a father for the first time propelled me into the urgency of creating a lifestyle that allowed for more income and flexibility. However, before my wife and I knew it, we were growing two babies; our daughter and a business. Neither of which came easy in their respective newborn stages, especially simultaneously, and especially in 2020.
The growing pains of small businesses are not few and far between, but we definitely added to the uncertainty with the timing. Coupled with the transition into parenthood for the first time. It was all a lot to take on. We were researching, Googling, and troubleshooting double time. Learning two different worlds, and two new roles. It wasn’t until year two when our human baby became a bit more independent that we were able to focus on the workflow, efficiency and improvements of what we had been working on in the business.
One thing is to understand how a system or product is programmed or works. It is another thing entirely to venture into the world of working with clients and understanding how complex people are. I could fulfill my end of the service, repairs or installations, but I had to learn a lot about building relationships, communication and having boundaries with clients and colleagues.
