Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Lenz
Hi Michael, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started out as a culinary student at Miami Dade college in Miami. Worked at some amazing restaurants with some great people in the profession. Became a personal chef in 2018, which really took off for me when the pandemic happened. Traveled a lot cooking for pro athletes, and entertainers. From Miami, Atlanta, Las Vegas and New York. I moved to Austin in 2021 and settled in.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think there is ever a smooth road in this field. Especially in the restaurant setting. Some of the struggles was being overlooked, underpaid and working some pretty intense hours.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional chef. I specialize in cooking for families, events and serving patrons in East Austin.
I am most proud of my ability to stay on this path, trusting the process and believing in myself.
I stay in my lane. I’m not in competition with anyone. I just try to be better than I was yesterday.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Never stop learning, sometimes you will have to settle to advance but know your worth!
Find a good mentor and grow with them.
