Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Moniz
Hi Andrew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve worked in healthcare my entire professional life. My first job at 16 years old was at a doctor’s office and with the exception of my time in the Air Force, I’ve remained in the health space. I began my journey into nursing when I realized that I had a deep passion for helping people and wanted to dedicate my life to it. I started my nursing career in one of the busiest Emergency Rooms at a level 1 trauma center on Long Island. Working there is the pride and joy of my nursing experience. I started travel nursing in early 2021 and did that for a few years. Despite my love of caring for the extremely sick, I always wanted to care for my community from a wellness and illness-prevention perspective. When I was in nursing school, I wanted to start an IV clinic but I never had the guts to do it. The idea sat on the back burner for years until I decided I wanted to be serious about it. in 2023, I was ready to start my business and I partnered with a friend to start Gorg! Wellness & Aesthetics. My mission was to make as many people feel and look their very best. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to feel gorgeous through wellness and medical cosmetics services. To achieve this, we are often out in the community and at events, offering our services for significant discounts so that we can reach as many people as possible. When you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you do good. We want more of that in the world so we are spreading the Gorg! Lifestyle.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting Gorg! was definitely not a smooth road. Starting a business is HARD. It takes grit, determination, discipline, and consistency. There were quite a few struggles along the way. You do as much research as you can and try to ensure that everything goes smoothly as possible for the launch. Then you become operational and hit hundreds of speed bumps. Things don’t go as planned, problems arise but you adjust. And the more you deal with those issues head on, the better you become at handling them. To cite one example, one month after we launched, my medical director had a fallout with partners in his previous clinic, who we were just getting used to, and he parted ways with them suddenly. In my type of business, this is a major change that requires a significant amount of work to establish. We had just got set up and boom, now we have to do it all over again. It took over 2 months to deal with the fallout from that situation. Many other struggles occurred too; we work events frequently and we’ve done and paid to be at quite a few that were complete flops. It hurts, it can be damaging to your confidence and pride. But after every one, we immediately learn from it and pivot to something that works better. We of course faced many financial struggles along the way, just like most business startups, which bring incredible stress. But that’s the nature of starting a business- You prepare to take a step, then take it and hope it works, and if it doesn’t, you learn and adjust and get better.
