Hidden Gems: Meet 903 G $moke of Black Royalty

Today we’d like to introduce you to 903 G $moke.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I 903 G$moke has always been a music buff since a kid. I wanted to rap or freestyle with my friends, but it was trash. In college, my close friends recorded a few songs with a guy in his house setup, and I was quite upset about that, but they made a nice little vibe bop song. I went to college at SHSU at the peak of the football program’s success from 2011-2015. I met many people involved in stuff I like to do, such as sports or music like DJ LIL Zac who was the roommate to one of my good friends a in college. After college, I finally learned what I sound like in a recording studio. Shout out to sauve one of the local Austin artist. He got a call to pull up and have a session with the still good friend of mine, Leo, aka Lil juice. I was riding with the Homie Sauve, and then Sauve got that call, so of course, me being me, I took the opportunity to make a hit, lol. The song was lit only because Sauve’s verse it was fire off the dome, mine was not that good. But it motivated me. I sent it out to everyone the next day. I booked another session because I had that itch. I quickly learned that I was not ready for the journey I was already on.

After spending time bumping shoulders with some of Houston’s hottest artists, managers, videographers, and everything in between, I finally moved back to Austin in October 2022. Houston showed me so much. I grew tremendously as an artist in the studio with gold and platinum engineers like Frontline and Kid silver, who used to bless my game as best they could, and I was forever thankful for their support. Those guys worked for sugar hill studio at the time of Covid, and I’m trying to have frontline record me at his crib while the studio has him working 12-hour shifts with 21 savage, lol. I was in touch with sauce walka manager, Miss Megan, for a bit; we shared office space at CEO supervision off of bissonet. I learn so much from Marvin and Miss Megan and Joc, the manager. They opened my eyes to the actual music business, not just recording songs but actual backdoor work like submitting a song correctly for everyone who worked on it to get paid without delays. I have so much to say and so many people that I’ve met along the way I couldn’t thank everyone enough for the support.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
this music journey been a lot about learning to get yourself right and now worrying about other people’s situations. I also learned to listen more than I talk, which I didn’t do so much growing up. Communicating effectively has got me much further in life, not just music. Being able to rely on god has also boosted me up when I’m at my lowest.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Black Royalty?
Black Royalty is a label run soulfully by me. I offer everything from consulting to video work photos, Black Royalty is everything I can do or find someone who can under one roof. I want it to represent what my culture is capable of.

Can you talk to us about the role of luck?
I’m the luckiest man alive I’ve been through a lot and still standing. My family disowned me, and my friends betrayed me. That’s life so you have to take it for what it is and keep grinding.
