Inspiring Conversations with Kelsey Taylor of The Working Enneagram

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Taylor.

Hi Kelsey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was fired from my job after having an affair with a coworker. I was at a loss on how to repair my marriage and provide for my family. I wrestled with confidence and depression. Who would want to hire a broken person like me? A friend reached out and asked me to do an Enneagram training for his department at Central Texas A&M. From there, I started to gain confidence in my ability to teach the Enneagram in the workplace. Without his confidence in me, I would not be where I am today. My Enneagram business isn’t quite full-time yet, so I supplement income with a project management gig on the side – but it is my joy and passion.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road! After I told my husband and my coworker that I was having an affair I was fired, but my affair partner wasn’t. I was angry and confused with myself on how I could make such a devastating choice that was completely out of character for me, and I was angry that my affair partner got to keep his job, while I did not. That was back in February of 2021. I struggled to make the Enneagram business a full-time job, but it’s still not where I want it to be, so I do project management work on the side. I don’t mind the side work – it’s steady and flexible and for now it works well with what our family needs. The years following the affair I slowly fell deeper into a depression as time progressed. I wasn’t aware I was depressed; I just thought I was abnormally tired all the time. When I started struggling to take a shower and slept for several hours in the afternoon after getting a full night’s sleep, I started to think something might be wrong, which led to a diagnosis of bipolar II disorder in October of 2024. It came as a relief and a shock. I finally had answers, but I also had a lot of fears. My father had bipolar disorder and committed suicide in 2016. I worried my fate would be the same. The past year has been the hardest as I have battled suicidal ideation and planned way to take my life. Eventually, the medication I started regulated and I’m feeling the best now that I have in SEVERAL years! So, the road hasn’t been smooth, but I’m better at my job because I can empathize with others’ struggles. I have a depth of compassion and empathy I wouldn’t have otherwise.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Working Enneagram exists to help small business teams grow in empathy and self-awareness. I use the Enneagram model, an ancient personality typing system that teaches 9 ways of seeing the world, or 9 different personality types. I love using the wisdom of the Enneagram in the workplace because we spend a lot time with our coworkers – and I believe that work should be fun and drama-free! Teams deserve a workplace where everyone feels valued and understood and can contribute their best.

I offer a variety of Enneagram workshops to help business owners and their teams understand their unique personalities and appreciate each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

I have been teaching the Enneagram for 5 years and have 95% satisfaction rating on my workshops. I’m so confident in the workshop results that I offer a 100% money-back guarantee. If your team doesn’t grow in empathy or self-awareness, you don’t pay!

What’s next?
I’m not the best visionary, but looking ahead, I have three big goals:

1. In the coming year, I’m planning to grow my YouTube channel to make Enneagram Wisdom simple and easy to digest. I’m working to offer a monthly or quarterly relationship with my clients so they can continue to grow as individuals and co-workers.

2. In the coming 3 years, I’m planning a full-day conference for my local community to teach the Enneagram in a fun and engaging way. I want people to know that all 9 personality types matter – no one type is better than the other – and all types are needed.

3. In the coming 5 years, I’d love to offer a course to coach others on how to teach the Enneagram in their local communities.

I’m also toying around with the idea of taking the Enneagram to my church to teach a spiritual perspective of the Enneagram.
