Meet Ashley Maiberger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Maiberger.

Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I initially created my @feedthishouse Instagram handle as a way to share recipes with friends. Once our daughter (and only child at the time) started attending preschool a few days a week, I joined Austin Food Bloggers Alliance and conducted several meetings each day with restaurant owners, chefs and media managers. I thoroughly enjoy learning the story behind each business. Each one is so uniquely personal. @feedthishouse continues to evolve and now encompass lifestyle brands in addition to restaurants and food products. I am humbled by the lives I have met already in this journey and look forward to ones I get to meet in the future.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To be perfectly honest, I initially had zero idea what I was getting into. I never knew all that went behind brand negotiating, photoshoots, etc. Thankfully, I have developed relationships with others in the same industry that give candid advice. The toughest part is time management. I am in a constant juggling act with @feedthishouse, my full-time career, kiddo activities, nurturing my marriage and personal mental/physical health and managing a household and all the while trying to stay sane. Over the years, I have gotten much better at saying “no” to obligations that don’t align.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In a nutshell, I am a blogger/influencer (cringe because I sort of despise that term). When we made the move from Ohio to Texas in 2013. I found myself at home full time with our eight months daughter in a city where I knew nobody, while my husband was traveling A LOT chasing his career. I would scroll through social media accounts in search of two things: a way to feel connected and less isolated and for ideas of how to spend our weekend when we would be together as a family. I like to keep my page light and upbeat because life and parenting are heavy enough. I know as a mom that a mid-day nap time Instagram scroll is a bit of an escape from the chaos and would like to think that I am now able to deliver that same content to my followers.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
On my best days, my brain feels like Swiss cheese. I rarely am able to complete a thought without interruption, therefore the good old ‘Notes’ app on my iPhone is my lifeline. My husband and I also quickly realized the key to a successful marriage is a shared calendar. We use ‘CalenGoo’ which allows me to create events or checklists for my eyes only and also create shared entries so that we’re both on the same page.
