Today we’d like to introduce you to Laya Pouresmaeil.
Hi Laya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey with design began long before it became a business — it started as a heartfelt hobby, rooted in love and creativity. I was born and raised in Shiraz, a city known for its poetry, gardens, and beauty. For 28 years, Shiraz was home — and it was there, at just 18 years old, that I discovered my passion for event design.
My very first project was my sister’s wedding. Encouraged by my mother and sister, I poured all my heart into creating something elegant and meaningful. A year and a half later, my sister-in-law asked me to design her wedding as well. With each event, my confidence and creativity grew. My designs were always minimalist and natural, often featuring fresh flowers and soft colors that reflected simplicity and beauty.
Not long after, a professional event planner invited me to collaborate on future weddings — a compliment that meant the world to me. But at that time, I had just completed my bachelor’s degree and decided to focus on my master’s studies instead. My path took me away from event design, but the spark never truly faded.
Five years later, I moved to the United States on a student visa. I built a new life in Austin, found stability in my career, and — for a while — forgot how much joy designing brought me.
That changed six years ago when my sister-in-law asked me to decorate her baby shower with balloons. It was my first time designing with balloons, and I instantly fell in love with it. Seeing the joy it brought to others reminded me of how fulfilling creativity can be. My passion was reignited.
Soon after, a friend mentioned someone she knew who did balloon décor professionally — and I remember saying, “I can do that too.” That simple moment sparked the beginning of a dream reborn. I began designing for friends and friends of friends, purely out of passion.
With the constant encouragement and support of Ali, my husband, I decided to turn this hobby into a real business. Together, we created Layartex Floral & Balloon Design — a studio dedicated to transforming ordinary moments into unforgettable memories. From birthdays and weddings to baby showers and corporate events, we design with heart, harmony, and a touch of elegance.
Recently, we’ve expanded our art to include floral design, blending the natural beauty of flowers with the playfulness of balloons — creating timeless, luxurious designs that celebrate life’s most meaningful occasions.
Every project is personal to us. Behind every balloon and bloom, there’s a story, a smile, and a memory being made.
From Shiraz to Austin, this journey is a reminder that passions never fade — they just wait for the right moment to bloom again.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For a long time, I balanced my full-time job with weekend events, often staying up late to finish a setup. It was exhausting at times, but my passion kept me going.
In the beginning, I had very limited resources — I learned through trial and error, practiced new techniques at home, and reinvested every dollar I made back into the business.”
Building trust took time — I started with small events for friends, and through word of mouth, my work slowly found its place in the community.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe luck has played a beautiful and unexpected role in my journey. Moving from Shiraz to the U.S. was a big step — I came here to study, not knowing that years later I would start a creative business. Sometimes, life leads you back to the things you truly love, and for me, that was design.
It felt like good luck when my sister-in-law asked me to design her baby shower — that moment reawakened a passion I had forgotten. From there, everything started to grow naturally. Friends began trusting me with their events, and each design led to another opportunity.
But I also believe luck alone isn’t enough. Hard work, consistency, and love for what you do turn lucky moments into lasting success. I was lucky to have my husband, Ali, by my side — always encouraging me and helping me with every detail. His support has been a blessing and a big part of where Layartex is today.
So yes, luck opened the door — but passion, dedication, and teamwork helped me walk through it.
