Today we’d like to introduce you to David Brown.
Hi David, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started high school with aspirations of playing college baseball. Went thru the primary and first 2 years of high school in the E.A.N.S school district living in shady hollow and graduated from lake travis. Getting a small incentive to play ball at conconcorida University i moved to campus, however with in 6 months my focus gravitated towards playing music in a small touring band. We played a couple nights a week in and around Austin and would venture on small road trips to college and coastal towns and eventually into rual america and back. The lack of college debt along with very affordable housing provided by communal living in and around the external parts of Travis and hays Co. allowed me to patiently explore my talents while sifting thru different career options, and i found that office work/warehouse was not something that held my interest. Having a father working in and around construction I spent many a summer thru my younger years
on framing crews, so; I when a good friend and I started up Mi Tierra construction it was like rolling out of bed. That good friends name is Arron Bevis from Uvalde Texas. He had the great idea , after being let go from employment at a local landscape company for lack of attendance, to make a road trip to get his old truck in Uvalde, drive it back, and start knocking on doors offering landscape installation services in the hill country. On our return voyage we stopped for a rest and had a conversation with an ol texas relic by the name of Billy Daniel’s. After sharing some jokes and aspersions over a lone stars’ Mr. Daniel’s shared his very adamant opinion that the flag of which our new path into the future would forge should read Mi Tierra. Returning back home with the 90’s model f150 we immediately started our ambitious plan. Thru many Blessings we were able to pay th minimal bills we had under the d.b.a of Mi Tierra custom landscape and design. Aaron soon left heading the call to manage a family farm, and I continued in and around the Hill country , building fences decks, pergolas, gardens, patios, & working with homeowners, learning the most needed aspect of business – transparent and honest communication. Being presented with opportunities which afforded educations in fence building, and timber framing, general masonry, Spanish and project management along with continually refining my personnel skills Mi Tierra clad continue to be a career. Gaining such knowledge in general framing and masonry thru acquaintances such as Steve Brewer (Guardian Fence) and the late great Niel Buie along with my beloved father Mike Brown, paved the path into what is now Mi Tierra custom homes. Steve’s knowledge of the structural engineering of proper/efficient fence building was honed from his native environment (houston) and it’s destructive storm patterns, necessitating the lightest possible structure, assembled in a fashion to support itself thru 90 mile per hour winds along with the needed load bearing engineering to ensure 20+ years of a straight, no-sag line of pickets and gates that continue to open smooth , a fashion you don’t see much outside of Houston for some reason. Niel was a very interesting character to say least, and I imagine there is a book or 2 with descriptive paragraphs about him. Let’s just say, they don’t make em like that anymore. Niels’ most famous work was the construction of the cabins and barns on the set of Texas classic – lonesome dove, in the final Montana scene when the remaining pioneers made the journeys end in. Learning the timber framing trade from Mr. Buie instructions instilled a much-needed foundational knowledge of structural engineering that has transcended to all facets of construction. Alongside the growth in framing’s multifaceted, niche my father Mike brown embraced a timely opportunity to pass down the mason’s lineage, which he forged through the late 70s and mid-eighties. His early endeavors left well-known legacies such as the entryway to camp Mabury on 35th along the ever-changing landscape of Austin. He and I worked hand in hand for a good part of a decade completing projects, which ,looking back, where nothing less than artwork. So, the beginning of that long story in Uvalde was around the year 01′ and up to 2011 Mi Tierra C.L.A.D began embracing re-modeling & new construction utilizing the education that had been given. Now in 2025 one can see examples of many projects ranging fro. simple atmosphere enhancements of backyards to the entire living development of an empty lot into a new dwelling at mi_tierra_construction or.
