Rising Stars: Meet Mars Luna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mars Luna.

Hi Mars, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
According to the United States government, my name is “Joshua Luna”, but I go by “Mars Luna”, the “space alien singer” and “Cosmic Prince” from the Sixth Dimension. My story started when I descended to Earth in the year 1993.

While adjusting to life on Earth, I had speech problems and while I was learning how to talk, I started singing and that came naturally to me. Music became my form of escapism and it also became my primary form of communication. Because I had speech problems and I had trouble acclimating to my surroundings, I was frequently misunderstood, bullied and felt like an outcast. But over time, through music, I became embraced and accepted by my peers. In May 2016, one of my favorite earthlings passed away after an arduous battle with cancer and that invigorated a desire to make music a career. As a result, I released my first two EPs Genesis and Prelude in September 2016 and April 2017 respectively and I’ve been performing and creating music to this day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say that my odyssey has been a beautiful struggle so far.

I believe the biggest obstacle that I’ve faced in regards to the music industry is developing solid relationships and asking for help when I need it. I’m admittedly not the most social being and I also have trust issues that stem from my childhood and adolescent years.

My main life mantra is to “embrace your odyssey and embrace the strange”, and that statement has helped me navigate through different seasons of my life. It reminds me that every trial I go through helps me become a better version of myself. It’s also a reminder for me to embody all my quirks and eccentricities. Being resilient and channeling my highest, best and truest self are essential for me to propel myself to a new stratosphere.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In human terms, people may see me as a musician, artist, songwriter, performer and entertainer, and those things are true. I also consider myself a “sonic storyteller”. A sonic storyteller creates stories through sound, and that’s the ultimate aim I have for my music.

Through my music, my goal is to help people embrace their odyssey and to embrace the strangeness of life. On April 2019, I released my first album Lost in Space. Lost in Space is the first episode of the “Cosmic Chronicles”, a series of albums that explore the trials, triumphs, dimensions, seasons, emotions, and the entire spectrum of the human experience. On November 2021, I released the second album of the Cosmic Chronicles, Dark Matter. Both of these projects are on all streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, etc.).

How do you think about luck?
This is a fascinating question. I don’t believe in luck and I don’t consider myself as lucky or unlucky.

I’ve always told myself that I can wait for the stars to align or I can align them myself. Everything is either written in the stars, or it isn’t. In other words, I control my own destiny. It’s up to me to make things happen for myself and it’s up to me to progress and move forward towards my final destination. No outside forces are going to determine that for me.
