Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilary Tobe Mokolo.
Hi Hilary Tobe, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2017, I was fortunate enough to work with some local small businesses helping them build content for their social media. During this experience, I found that I enjoyed working with people particularly helping to bring their visions to life. It was a blessing because during this time, I also met my mentor. It should be a necessity in life to apprenticeship under someone who is has experience in the industry you are looking to get into. My mentor speed up my growth years ahead of where I would have been if I continued on my own. All my experiences and determination then allowed me to become who I am and build to where I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. A few bumps as were expected but there will be more. Everything in life is a journey therefore expect there to be good times and bad times. Neither last so always keep pushing on that is the only way through especially during the bad times. For me, there was a lot of stretching myself too thin. Taking on a lot more than I should have probably. Doing a lot for free in the name of experience and relationship. In hindsight, I would probably do it all again because I am happy with the outcome today. I believe if I didn’t hustle the way I did, I would not have built the mindset I have today that gives me the confidence in what I do. So everything can be a blessing and a curse but naturally the only way through is a straight path you cannot avoid those hard times, those struggles, you just have to go through it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Today I am a creative director, photographer and I own a production company. I work with anyone who is looking to bring their vision to life. We produce visuals for small or big companies to help them grow their brands and tell the story they are trying to convey to their audience. I am also a wedding photographer and cinematographer, so any couples getting engaged or having their wedding, I would love to tell your story.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The word that comes to mind is “grit.” Looking up the google definition, it states great is courage and resolve; strength of character. I had too and still have to be courageous and tough to go through the ups and downs. For me, it has been my grit, my ability to withstand and go through the hard times continuously.
