Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Cherry.
Hi Jessica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello! My name is Jessica Cherry and I am the founder and creator of Life of a Cherry Wife. I write about family, food, style, motivation and I do this through the eyes of a Latina woman in the Austin, TX area. I have been living in the Austin area for over 23 years and have been married to my husband, Phillip, for ten years. We have two children and the sweetest pug named Chulo!
Before I created Life of a Cherry Wife, I worked in higher education, non-profits and meeting and event planning. I have created beautiful galas, helped produce local festivals, and have even interned at a local rodeo! After the birth of my first child, I decided to quit my full-time job to stay at home and start writing about my experience as a new mother. My first article, which was “10 Things I Wish I Knew While Pregnant,” went viral. I have been writing ever since. I have also continued to further my education while writing from home. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, am finishing my MBA degree in a couple of months and am planning to continue my education, earning a PhD in Organizational Leadership.
Life does not “end” when you have children, if you allow it to, life can begin. What I want others to know is that if you want something enough, you can make it happen. Your dreams can come true. Research, make a pathway and everyday work towards them.
Life of a Cherry Wife is a place where readers can come and find new recipes, fashion finds, motherhood talk and places to go in the Austin area and beyond. It is a place to see a Latina woman juggling motherhood, higher education and making a better life for her children.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Time management is a challenge. I want to do all the things! However, there are only 24 hours in a day and two little children demand plenty of time. Calendars, alarms, and a healthy dose of patience make it all happen.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have learned that life is what you make of it. You are never too old, or too anything to go after what you want in life. Keep trying new things! Trying new things is an easy way to get you to keep exploring, learning and growing as a person.
