Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Tomaino.
Becky, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been an overly sentimental person, always wanting to capture every moment. In fact, one of my good friends from childhood recently reminded me and my sister confirmed that when I was a child, I would walk past windows and pose because I said the windows took our picture. Fast forward to high school, when I started taking photos for the school yearbook. This is when I realized this is what I wanted to do. I started taking senior portraits for students at my school and that’s how it all started.
From there, I went on to shoot my first wedding in California after graduation. Continued to photograph seniors, families and weddings and still do this today!
Shortly after my start, I got into videography on a complete accident. I made a video of a trip and that got seen by a company that hired me. This stage in my life was a whirlwind and I soon became a photographer and videographer and digital media manager for companies nationwide.
And to this day, it still seems very surreal.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I started, I was still in high school and in college, I was doing everything I could to say yes to every opportunity for my business while taking classes full time. I ended up making the decision to bring the majority of my studies online. This allowed me to finish my work wherever opportunities lead me and allowed me to work around my business. I can laugh now at the lack of sleep and the power naps in my car that made all the difference.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Rebecca Lauren Photography is a portrait and event photography and videography company. Specializing in natural light photography. The biggest part of my business is senior portraits and family photos. However another huge part is event and company promotional videos. This is something that really puts me aside from the rest because I am able to not only capture still images but overall edited videos. I tend to do this mainly for companies for promotional content and full event recaps. However, I do wedding and personal parties as well. For example, children’s birthday parties. This is a great thing to have for the future and one less thing for mom and dad to worry about.
As for what I am most proud of, I would say is the variety in offerings and allowing clients the opportunity to create packages that cover their specific needs.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Personally, I learned that the long nights and early mornings are worth it. If you are passionate, open to new things and optimistic anything is achievable.
