Today we’d like to introduce you to Geremy Anderson.
Hi Geremy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Our CBD/Hemp Farm started in September of 2020. I relocated to Austin from East Texas in 2017 and began working at a local hydroponic/organic plant supply shop called Brite Ideas. For the three years that I worked there, I built a network of resources and contacts that would eventually prove vital to our farm’s success. Growing vegetables and other garden produce has been a part of my life since I was a child. During my early adult years, I engaged in career activities in the financial sector as well as raised capital and started several independent side companies. As a result of the onset of the Covid 19 Pandemic in 2020, my workplace experienced several shutdowns where the store closed for interim periods of time to be cleaned and sanitized. This created a financial burden and uncertainty that made it difficult to meet my financial needs.
As a result, I bailed on the job market in August and began building out our indoor grow rooms. This was a huge leap of faith. However, by that time, I had gained several years of experience growing this plant and was confident and prepared to utilize the knowledge of how to grow a quality product. Our farm specializes in premium top-shelf CBD flower. Our attention to detail shows up in the amazing quality of our end product. We use any byproducts, such as smaller buds and the leaves, to extract the CBD oil concentrate and put it into products such as tinctures, salves, balms, and some edibles such as CBD gummies. We are currently doing trials and tests on several unique new products for the industry and are constantly on the lookout for new needs in the market. Texas is a new and emerging cannabis market with a huge amount of upside potential. We are early adopters in the game and have a ton of momentum coming off the starting line. Our goal is to secure a few large distributors and provide a suite of products that are the highest quality in Texas.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has NOT been a smooth road. The industry is in its fledgling stage and has had numerous challenges so far. The biggest of these challenges falls under the regulatory component of the industry. The confusion rests between the Federal guidelines and the state laws as it pertains to the extracts and cannabinoids that come from the plant. Cannabinoids, such as CBD and THC, are the molecules in hemp and cannabis that pr0vide the medical benefits. Cannabinoids are the regulated component of the plant. In hemp, the THC Delta 9 can not be any higher than .3%. THC is the psychoactive molecule found in abundance within the adult-use recreational marijuana market. Each crop has to be tested prior to harvest. A passing test allows us to harvest and process the material accordingly. This is where the confusion begins because there are several different THC molecules that are not specifically addressed in the current regulation. Current legislation only addresses THC Delta 9. Retailers and laboratories have found ways to extract different forms THC other than “Delta 9”; specifically Delta 8 THC. This has caused a flurry of court dates, injunctions, and an attempt to outright ban smokeable hemp flower. As I previously mentioned, premium hemp flower is our focus and as you can see, the regulatory environment has caused uncertainty in the industry as we are directly impacted by the dynamics. Hopefully, the legal seas will calm or at least become more predictable.
We’ve been impressed with Geremy Greens, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Geremy Greens, our primary focus is premium top shelf hemp flower. We are a small batch shop that produces a steady flow of high-quality varieties. While other companies are focused on quantity and mass production, our main objective is to offer clients a level of quality well above the rest of the market. We specialize in growing exotic strains as well as breeding new ones. Our farm process allows us to pay close attention to each plant and create an optimum environment for them to grow. We use only OMRI listed organic solutions for any pest management. We are also industry leaders in educating other growers and business owners through onsite seminars and “Field Days” designed to teach technical growing methods along with business development coaching.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
As in most emerging markets, fraud and deceit are close to the surface. From consultants to wholesalers, we have seen and experienced several individuals that lack even a smidge of ethics. Our advice to anyone coming into this industry is to be diligent and thorough when choosing a partner or service as part of your process.
