Community Highlights: Meet Kaitlin Rodgers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlin Rodgers.

Hi Kaitlin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was in high school, I had saved up for a camera and basically photographed anything around me. Flowers, buildings, cats, sunsets, you name it. When I was 17, a friend came up to me and said, “Hey, I like your photography. Can you take pictures of my family? I’ll pay you.” That’s when a whole new world opened up for me. It never occurred to me that I could MAKE MONEY doing something that I genuinely loved. So we agreed on a price for the family session (I think it was something like $50 haha) and that’s when I plunged into making photography a side hustle. I did family portraits and senior portraits, along with a few weddings through college, and after I graduated with my art degree, I headed to the corporate world for my first job out of college. That lasted all of ten months. Although I loved my boss, I would sit at my desk wishing I was photographing weddings. So I made the (very scary) decision to commit to being a full-time photographer. That was three years ago, and today I am operating a wedding photography business that has grown so much that I now have a team of amazing photographers that I get to send all over Texas to photograph amazing weddings! It really is a dream come true.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. Entrepreneurship is one of the hardest things I have ever done, but also the most fun and rewarding. One of the more difficult things when running your own business and a team is the challenges that come with growing pains and dreaming big. It’s so easy to see the “big picture”, but it takes a lot of self-discipline to put your head down and do the task right in front of you, over and over and over to get you to the “big picture”.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a team of wedding photographers that photograph weddings all over Texas. Besides making sure our clients have wedding photos that they absolutely adore, one of our highest priorities is making sure that our clients feel seen and cared for. Wedding planning is hard, and it often feels like trying to hop on a train going full speed. But I love sitting down with couples and simply listening to their hearts, figure out who they are and what is important to them. It sounds like that has nothing to do with photography, but it really has everything to do with it. When we know the hearts of our clients, we can photograph the heart and emotions of the wedding. So when our clients get their wedding photos, they say, “This was OUR wedding and these photos tell you exactly how that day felt.”

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Kaitlin Rodgers Photo has some of the most enthusiastic couples!! The ones that simply say a kind word and tell their friends about us or tag us in the photos, those are the ones that really make photographing weddings 100% worth it and make sure that we keep working with great couples like them. I also have had sooo much help from my business coach, Jennifer Allwood.
