Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Ledesma.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started to stand up comedy almost three years ago. I had done stand up about one year when the pandemic hit and decided to start the first comedy open mic during it. I am nowhere near where I want to be, but I am working hard to get there! Beginning of 2021 a lot of stand up started moving here. I am very thankful for that because a lot of the opportunities I have gotten wouldn’t have happened without it. Since then, I have gotten amazing opportunities like opening for Russell Peters, Steve Byrne and more. One of the coolest things I have done is opening for Freddie Gibbs with a roast battle, it was so surreal. Besides stand up, I am a troll on the internet, a mediocre person and an okay friend. My brand is kind of dumb/basic bitch and y2k everything. I try to always be genuine with people, on and off stage. I think it resonates with a lot of people.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m a whole mess and a half. Most of my obstacles are pretty personal. I have PTSD and it was really bad before I started to stand up like I would barely leave my house. Overcoming that is something I don’t acknowledge or really give myself a lot of credit for. Also, I’m a recovering alcoholic and got sober this past fall. I am really proud of myself for the progress I have made.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a stand up comic based in Austin, Texas. I would describe my stand up as “dark and dirty”. I like talking about things that may be taboo because there’s always humor to find there and I think certain subjects should be talked about more. I’m very proud of my work ethic, even when it’s hard to stay motivated I push myself. I am also proud of my monthly show, it’s called “Freaky Friday”. It’s an inappropriate comedy show and I love it, I enjoy the hard work that I put into it because it pays off.
How do you think about happiness?
My dog, Willie Nelson. I think my dog would be the top answer, him or coffee. I’d say both equally.
