Conversations with Madeleine Berckley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeleine Berckley.

Hi Madeleine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am currently a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin and I have always had a deep passion for the arts but also for the creative thought process. I love writing and I also love photography. I do a lot of writing in my free time and my photography also helps me clear my mind. I have an Instagram for my photography business and also have a website attached to that (https://www.madeleineberckley.com/). That being said, I am majoring in stage management and also pursuing a minor in communications. I am currently a sales representative for Disney’s The Lion King and in the past was a representative for Zyia Active. I one day hope to stage manage concerts, festivals, or fashion shows. I love seeing people’s creative ideas come to life and I love capturing the whole process through the lens of my camera!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say I’ve had my ups and downs. I have contemplated whether or not I am doing something I want to long term and I’ve asked myself if I am where I want to be. However, I think that you are always changing and evolving from your past self. I think that sometimes I feel like I’m not as far in my journey as I want to be but then I look back to where I was only a year ago and I can see the growth I’ve gone through. I think the challenges you go through are always a good lesson because it will guide you towards your next step. You just have to work your hardest and give your all because then you will know you’ve done the best you can and you just have to trust the process after that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently trying to experience as many things as I can specifically in the relationship between the communications world and theatre world here on campus. I think that my love for writing and photography can add a really cool aspect to my theatre background and hopefully promote the work going on backstage more. As a stage manager, I feel like not many people outside of the theatre world understand what we really do so I think I want to do something to emphasize that role. I think I am most proud of my ability to always think creatively. I love letting my creative energy loose and am really proud of some of the outcomes that has had here at UT so far. I am on the Fine Arts Council and just got accepted to participate in the PR committee for a festival happening on campus next year!

What are your plans for the future?
I am planning on graduating with a BA in Theatre Design and Technology (with an emphasis in Stage Management) and a minor in Communication Studies. I am really looking forward to see what my future holds for me and I am also excited to see what cool job opportunities I can pursue with a degree like this.
