Conversations with Saint Spicer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saint Spicer.

Hi Saint, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
“Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. If you’re a man, you take it.” – Malcolm X

“All courses of action are risky, so prudence is not in avoiding danger (it’s impossible), but calculating risk and acting decisively. Make mistakes of ambition and not mistakes of sloth. Develop the strength to do bold things, not the strength to suffer.”
– Niccoló Macchiavelli

I am a pop vocalist on a quest to tour the world (especially Japan), creating art inspired by the unseen. I live on anime and matcha lattes and write all my music out of Orb Recording Studios in Austin, TX (shout out to my team, Kelsey Flanagan and Oliver Ocean). Have you ever had something you wanted for yourself that was out of the ordinary? Music, for me, is the process of switching channels. Of developing the strength to do bold things. Of taking my freedom. Like most American children, I spent 2 decades in a rigid “school” system that rewarded conformity, regurgitated “information,” and thinking inside the box. Music has been a lengthy, slow, luxurious process of unraveling the boundaries in my mind and my life. And as I do so, I show up differently for my friends, family, and every who follows me on social media. By stepping into the idea that “I can do anything I set my mind to,” everyone who follows me and wonders “what is possible for me” is a living excuse for following their heart.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?

Being an artist is the same as any path that involves following your heart. I’ve been trying new things, failing, and feeling all the discomfort and embarrassment that comes from being in the public eye, over and over again. The biggest learning experience has been around perfectionism and has come from my mentor, Queen B. “Perfection stares right into you. Are you happy with yourself?” – “Pretty Hurts,” song by Beyonce

I’ve been very vocal that Beyonce’s work and performances carried my passion for music during times when I didn’t believe being an entertainer was possible. During my darkest hour, I was traveling the U.S. for a cybersecurity company, hopping on 200 flights a year across the southern U.S., drinking, on anti-depressants, and doing everything I could to hide from my music. That same year, Beyonce released her Beychella performance on Netflix. I spent 2 months dancing, singing, and re-watching that performance front to back. I cried and laughed and saw myself on stage doing what I loved. I learned everything I could about singing, endurance, showmanship, putting together a complex performance, event planning, working with a team, and extracting every nugget of wisdom I could.

“Can’t nobody do what I came here as” – “Dynamite,” song by Saint Spicer

I’ve struggled with the thought “No one cares about music” a lot. My logical mind wants to believe that music isn’t super important to living life. But I always remind myself that without Beyonce, I would not be where I am today. I can shine because her light was so bright when mine was dark. She held a torch for me when I had given up on myself. Now I owe it to everyone else to do what I came here to do.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am most known for my skills as an entertainer. My live stage performances always include live vocals and dancing, along with amazing lighting, set design, and great collaborators. My showmanship carries over to my DJ sets, and I DJ exclusively for private events worldwide. Clients who know my work often hire me to sing and DJ, and my professionalism means that I can work with and serve some of the top names in the industry.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I believe two important steps can change your life and business:

  • First is the Life Activation, available through the Modern Mystery School (https://www.modernmysteryschoolint.com/). Everyone knows you have to clean and care for your body and mind, but we are not taught how to clean and care for your emotions and energy system. Emotions are Energy in Motion, and I found myself stuck in a repetitive cycle of emotions that I couldn’t pull myself out of – no matter what I tried. The Life Activation moved that stuck energy for me, and I have since progressed on the path to hold that energy for myself. I need to speak more highly of the Modern Mystery School and Life Activation. It is essential.
  • The second step: get a coach. Get a coach who is trained in “The Model” (as taught by the Life Coach School” (https://thelifecoachschool.com/) who can ask you questions that allow you to decide for yourself what your next step is. A pro tip I’ve found from many coaching sessions: To help you decide which coach is right for you, look for someone whose questions create immediate energetic shifts in you and give you the clarity you’ve been craving. You’ll know.

Pricing:

  • Live Performance (Vocals) $150/Hour
