Daily Inspiration: Meet Roberto Berrios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberto Berrios.

Hi Roberto, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been doing tattoos for almost 40 years. Piercing for about 20 years now. After leaving the military, I traveled a lot throughout my life working at different shops learning all sorts of different techniques from many artists. Meeting great people and just never could phathem life to be any more rewarding than to leave my work on hundreds of thousands of great folks over the years. Tattooing became my world and lifestyle.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey in the industry was never a smooth ride. Being a loyal tattoo artist, I worked endless hours at times tattooing for other shops not having much time for myself, and of course when the season dies down in some areas the struggle to survive increases due to not enough clients to support all the artist at a given studio. To balance this, I found myself promoting on all my free time to bring in clientele. Traveling a lot also took its toll on my following to have access to my forever changing location. Eventually, I did settle and opened my own studio and yes, it was a struggle getting a new tattoo studio started up, running and operating full steam. For a while, I was the only employee I had until I was able to find other artists in the area. I Eventually took on apprentices and had to breed my own artist due to not finding the quality tattoo artist I needed in my area.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a tattoo artist and owner of Hill country art piercing in tattoos in Dripping Springs, Texas. I’ve been tattooing for almost 40 years and specialize In several Genre of art styles, traditional, Polynesian, new school, oriental, midevil, realization, animal portraits and so much more. Mostly appreciated for my specializations in custom designs and cover ups. I am proud of how far I’ve come against all odds and always felt what sets me aside from others is that my purpose comes from my heart and tattooing to me is not about money or fame in any way. I do this devotional work as a vessel for others to express who they are or want the world to see as a permanent part of their body’s presentation.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I think the most important lesson I’ve learned over the years is what I do matters and important to others for so many reasons. Each client has their own reasons and they rely on my patience, my seriousness to perform professionally, and my abilities to create the tattoo they want and can live with the rest of their lives.
