Daily Inspiration: Meet Superman McCoy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Superman McCoy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My life had drastically changed on December 10, 2016. I was attacked by two men, it was a horrific hate crime. My name is Superman and I am a Transman whom was attacked for being trans. When I awoke from an eight days comma, I had to relearn everything which took some time. I have sustained multiple Traumatic Brain Injuries, my body being crush, PTSD and so much more. Through it all, I have continued to tell anyone I meet that I have hope, faith and love that it will all work out. I created BDB apparel out of the travesty. BDB stands for Beast Don’t Break! If I have learned anything, it’s that the human mind is resilient beyond belief. BDB is more than a brand it’s what defines me. I’m a beast that cannot be broken. I have not only gained motor function but all functions back. I am better now than I ever have been in my entire life! I took a horrific hate crime and was able to turn it into something that helps others. I have run past the disabled and homeless people of Austin for four years now for them not to lose hope. I have spoken to people about my story to have them chase their dreams. I perform on stage to bring people joy! Everything I am doing is to help change the perspective of the world. There are so many negative things happening all the time, it’s hard to find the good sometimes. I strive to encourage and empower people with the words Beast Don’t Break! Let my story of horrific tragedy turned into a bright light of love and encourage you to never stop chasing your dreams.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With every achievement, there has always been a mental block not allowing me to see the great things I have already accomplished and continue to accomplish. I strive for excellence yet I am my own worst critic. The most difficult and challenging thing of all is the mind. I have been struggling to get my brand out there while performing, making friends, losing friends, building a home to live in and not lose my mind. To say the least, when you chase your dream expect everything to fall apart all at once. Expect people to come into your life and just take advantage of you and your situation. If you think it is easy to say the least, it’s the hardest thing you will ever do. I promise it’s worth it though.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a creative artist, to say the least. I’m an activist, Philanthropist, artist, carpenter, and so much more. What I’m proud of is when I lost everything, I built a house outta nothing. I’m proud to say I’m still able to do things that most with TBIs are not able to do. I am proud that I am here to tell my story and that my story didn’t ruin me.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Telling my story while traveling. I am able to connect with anyone and share life stories to help better people. Changing humanity from a negative lifestyle is a very hard task. But as I have said since I woke up, one person at a time one day at a time. If I do nothing more than change the way people are to one another, that’s enough for me.
