Exploring Life & Business with Aristia Mosley of Puzzle Piece Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aristia Mosley.

Hi Aristia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in New Orleans, and my family experienced Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This started my interest in wanting to be a counselor due to all of the help I received during that time. Puzzle Piece Counseling was born while I was in grad school but didn’t become a reality until a near-death experience for me. That experience pushed me to live fully and chase dreams I’ve always had.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Far from easy! Grad school was tough for me because it took me a lot longer than expected to finish my intern hours. This extended my time in Grad School a full year, and it was discouraging. There were many times I wanted to quit, but getting pregnant pushed me to finish. After graduating, I didn’t immediately take my licensure exam because I was focusing on being a first-time mom. This caused me to put my dreams lower on my priority list. Doubt started to creep in, and I started to get comfortable with what I was doing and for a quick moment told myself I wouldn’t take my licensure exam at all. My bestfriend and family paid for my licensure exam and all I had to do was pass. I’m forever grateful for them believing in me because I almost gave up on myself.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Puzzle Piece Counseling?
Puzzle Piece Counseling is my own private practice that I started in 2019. I see individuals over 18, couples, and families for therapy. I believe what sets me apart is my ability to allow clients to see me as a human. I relate to and hold space for them where others might not. Most of my clients are Black or POC, and I’m proud of that due to the stigma that comes from mental health and therapy in those communities. I’m proud that they’re getting the help they need, and it makes me feel good to be a part of that journey. My number one goal as a clinician is to destigmatize Mental Health and therapy so all decisions I make for my business is based on that.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always open to educating on mental health and love opportunities that give me the space to do that. That could be a podcast, presentation, IG live, etc. Anything that helps me talk about mental health, I’m all for it.
