Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecili Eckert.
Hi Cecili, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I call myself the posterchild for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Prior to birth, my mother spent months in the hospital dealing with an infection that nearly killed her. She was told, “whatever you do, don’t get pregnant anytime soon.” Less than six months later, she was pregnant with me. I came into this world with immediate issues and the odds stacked against me though it would be decades before they truly showed themselves.
Eventually, I was diagnosed with IBD – Ulcerative Colitis. I was told I would need to take medication “forever” and that “40 years of research has never uncovered a connection between food and IBD.” My only option was to take the medication for the rest of my life.
It was a time in my life that was full of fear and “the unknown”. That might have swayed me into taking this seemingly magic pill that I had been prescribed. But that’s not my style.
I decided to do some research. I had never eaten well so I started with diet. It took me months and months to determine how to eat for my body and this incurable disease. Once I figured it out, all of my symptoms subsided. I knew diet was only one piece of the puzzle, so I began dealing with childhood trauma, all my fears and my negative mindset. The outcome was amazing. Now I know that (most of the time) if you treat your body well, it responds in a beautiful way!
I knew there were hundreds of thousands of others that were having very similar experiences. Leaving their doctor’s office in a state of fear and feeling powerless. I decided pretty quickly that I desperately wanted to help others understand the power of their choices, the power of the body and most importantly, that they have more control over their health outcomes than they are being led to believe.
My passion for helping others really stems from my own personal struggles with chronic digestive issues. The best part about my job is that I get to see people completely transform their health, return to living the life they desire and it’s all because they chose to use their power in such a brave and positive way. I get to meet superheroes all the time!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
From a business perspective, I have learned that I have to really focus on work/life balance all the time. I have three children and a husband that I love to spend time with. As a small business owner that wants to make a huge difference, I have to remind myself to put my health and family at the top of my list of priorities so that I can maintain my dream of helping others.
There have been a couple of times when I was so focused on building a business that I forgot to pause and enjoy my personal life, really pushing myself beyond what my body was willing to accept. It was during these exciting (but stressful) times that my body reminded me that everything depends on self-care. Now I have tools and tricks in place to be successful at both work and play.
As you know, we’re big fans of Revival Nutrition and Health. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Revival Nutrition and Health was designed to help people with chronic digestive issues achieve a healthy and symptom-free life using natural solutions like diet and lifestyle modifications.
Because I have a digestive disease myself, every facet of my business takes into consideration what it feels like to sit in the patient seat. I have designed my program offerings to include an approach to just about everything a person has control over regarding their health. And, almost all of us have way more control than we’ve been led to believe.
I use my in-depth understanding, both personally and professionally, of digestive health (and all aspects that digestion impacts) to provide a comprehensive wellness plan that includes diet, stress, sleep, hormones, the microbiome, the immune system and much more. I leave no detail left unchecked. It truly is a holistic approach to helping people resolve their long-term health issues once and for all.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
As a native Austinite, I love the people! We have such a vibrant city, always growing and expanding not only our population but our minds and experiences. I wish we hadn’t lost so many Austin original businesses over the last decade due to crazy growth. That said, we live in a thriving city because of growth and expansion and unfortunately, that means some of our favorite places just couldn’t compete anymore.
